Hi Rick,

Sorry you have pleurisy, I have had it a few times and confirm the pain is worse than having a baby. I have emphysema but did not know that until after having pleurisy and pneumonia, but it was most likely already there. I think as for how long it lasts, everyone is different. Best advise I can give is sleep as much as you can and keep up your fluids. I used lots of pillows on a bed tray, so that i could slump forwards. But to be honest for me it was like you just could not rest the pain. It was not so hot weather when I suffered so used hot water bottles, that probably not feasible in this weather. Doctor told me that I could have aspirin and paracetomol for pain, and he kept changing the antibiotics until he found one that worked for me. Wishing you better.

Sorry you're suffering Rick, not nice. I've had it a few times (always in the same place & every so often I get a twinge there, so obviously it's lingering).

I think you have to rest it and avoid the movements that pain you.

Hope you're feeling better today. P

Sorry to hear your not too well rick1, think the advice given is good. People with lung conditions often get bouts of infection and things like pluerisy. Take care of yourself and hope you feel better soon.

I have bronchial asthma and have had pneumonia 5 times in 2 years. I've consequently had pleurisy from this each time. It is very, very painful and with your breathing difficulties it is awful. You have my deepest sympathy. Mine took a few months for the pleurisy to go. I assume that like myself, you haven't required a chest drain. When I got a chest infection in the 2 years following the pneumonia, I had recurrent pleurisy. You have my full sympathy, i didn't find the pain relief did anything for me, but i found that warmth to the back did. I shall pray for your health to improve soon. I hope you can keep away from people coughing and rest and keep warm. God bless.
