Repeat Prescription

I was thinking of getting my repeat prescription delivered, I have always ordered mine over the phone and collected it myself, but I am getting more worried about picking up an infection at the same time.

Do I arrange it with the chemist or the surgery? Thanks

I arranged it with my chemist. They collect my prescription from the surgery, fill it and deliver it, keeping the paperwork to do the same the following month. It works well. All I have to do is take it! x

I ring my local Tesco when I have a weeks supply left. They order it from the Health Centre and I just pick it up from them when I am in shopping. I don't think they deliver but I didn't want it delivered anyway as then it would tie me in.

You can have them bubble packed which puts them in doses eg morning lunch tea and supper but it gets a bit difficult if your medication is always changing

Have had a very reliable monthly prescription delivery service from the local chemist, who are also very helpful at delivering a one-off in times of exacerbations. Arrange it through the chemist of your choice knitter - all you'll need to do is to then ring them each month for your repeat scripts. It will take all the worry out of getting your meds. Lovelight x

I order my prescription on-line from the GP's surgery. I then email the local Chemist and they collect the presrciption and email to say when the prescribed drugs will be ready for collection, they will deliver if required. An excellent service.

Hi Knitter,

I have my repeat prescription with a pharmacy at a local supermarket and have always collected it. During my recent illness I was unable to collect my medication as I live alone and have no one to collect it. On enquiring if it could be delivered I found out that they do not do a delivery service - no good to me when I'm ill.

I have now changed to a pharmacy that, holds my repeat prescription, collects the monthly prescription from my GP and then delivers the medication to my door. All I have to do is phone the pharmacy about a week before I need my monthly medication.

All can be arranged between you and the selected pharmacy - I would recommend you ask if they have a delivery service - some do not.

I am registered with a chemist, that will collect prescription from GP in fact I think they do it electronically on the computer, dispense and deliver. You just ring the chemist but they only do repeat monthly prescriptions and I am only allowed three repeats before seeing the doctor, but if I am ill they will bend the rules a little usually my GP has to do a telephone consultation. There are always ways to find a solution otherwise I ring the GP for repeat and collect it myself.Everyone needs to find the best solution for themselves

next prescription you get, take a look at it . on mine it asks if you want-it to be picked up by a chemist and which chemist you want to use . don't know if all surgeries do this . i am in the belper area derbyshire

Arrange with surgery which pharmacy to delivery prescription.

Arrange through pharmacy for home delivery.

You might want to check if your pharmacy provides this service foc .

Some chemists will deliver, but if your surgery has it's own pharmacy on premises, ask there first. My GP's pharmacy will always deliver if I have to order controlled drugs, but if not they will drop it at the local Post Office for us to collect. But may have drugs delivered permanently to my home as the driver told me he passes my house several times a week. Hope this helps you. (I have Bronchiectasis among many other problems and have 25 different meds each month.) Just ask and you may be pleasantly surprised, Knitter.

Hello,

I am a pharmacy dispenser for Boots and they offer everything you need. They offer an on-line ordering service so you can request what medication you want and when you want it, allowing sufficient time for the pharmacy to order it from the surgery and dispense it etc.

Alternatively, the most popular option is the Free Repeat Prescription Service. You sign up to this, ideally in store (but I am sure individual stores would make an exception in your case and do this over the phone). You must provide the pharmacy with a repeat slip from your GP listing your medication. You tick the items you require and sign it at the bottom and the pharmacy do the necessary their end. It works on a 28 day cycle and as long as you are a 'housebound' patient you will qualify. Having said that, I do believe that if you explain why you want this service, I personally would never refuse a patient this request. Setting it up is very straight forward and as soon as you have your first delivery, the driver will ask you to tick and sign the repeat slip for the following month and thats it, same every month then. It is down to you to notify the pharmacy if anything changes or is ammended by your GP as this isn't always communicated, same as letting them know if you start taking over the counter medicines as they may interact with your regular medicines.

You should receive your delivery same day/time every month generally but again, if there are any specific requests etc, then speak to your pharmacy and they will do everything they can to help you. Hope this helps and please ask if there is anything else I can help with xx

Hello hunny! Boots offer a service where you can have your medication pre packed into weekly A4 size boxes/wallets. It lists the days of the week and there are 2 options, one has two times of the day but the main ones used have 4, morning, noon, afternoon, night. We then put the medication into the relevant section for you. It is all labelled clearly so you can still see what is enclosed with the direction clearly listed. Most patients receive 4 weekly packs every month in one go. This service is provided free by Boots!

Just a note though, if you take painkillers for example and the direction is 'take one or two tablets upto four times a day' then this cannot be included in the 'dosset' box because you decide how much to take and when. Only medication with a definite direction can be enclosed this way. Your pharamcy will go through all this with you anyway.

Hope this helps xxx

I think that you are very wise to keep contact with others (especially in doctor's waiting rooms) to a minimum.

I arranged home delivery with my surgery who instructed the Chemist, only had to do it once and it's a great service. Even if you are not up to getting it yourself the medication is guaranteed !

No it doesn't cost any more than the prescription charge and if you are retirement age like me it's free.
