  • Absolutely Acky. The consultant who gave me the diagnosis could not have been nicer. He praised me for giving up smoking, did not ask why I hadnt done it sooner. On subsequent visits he jumped up from his chair as I entered his office and shook hands with me. The rest of the staff in the chest clinic were just as kind. Dont feel you should beat yourself up for causing the condition , we have enough to cope with looking after ourselves. Regards Joyce

  • Hi Caroll only just managed to log on. I was seeing Dr Bhatia Tameside Hospital ,really nice gentleman. He directed me to a hospital specialist nurse to make sure I new how to take my meds ok..The last time I went I was discharged on the grounds I took execise had given up smoking and my condition wasnt expect to get any worse. I can always be referred back if necessary. Hope you are keeping well and you enjoyed your rehab course Joyce

  • THANKS JOYCE MY CONSULTANT IS AN ABSOLUTE GEM HE HIS NOW LIKE LIKE A LIFELONG PAL I FEEL I OWE HIM OWE HIM SO MUCH BUT NOTHING IS A PROBLEM TO HIM

  • Hi acky, so very pleased your having a positive experience, there really are some very non judgemental people around, your consultant sounds lovely, one of my gp's is lovely, but there is one chap who puts everything down to smoking, I try to avoid him, as I always end up feeling ashamed and not entitled. When most of us started smoking, back in the day, there wasn't the stigma there is today, I remember working in a bank and the cashier would come off the counter and smoke in view of the public, working in

Pubs we would all be smoking behind the bar, indeed my old gp used to smoke, don't be hard on yourself, you are getting the respect and support you are entitled to. X x x

  • It is very humbling, I know my husband has been bowled over by the kindness and consideration of the medical staff. I know you hear lots of negative things in the press about the NHS but we have a fantastic service. Glad you are getting the help you need. TAD xx
