What's lung specialist mean with diagnosis trivial emphysematous bullae and trivial bronchiectasis

Any one know why it's called trivial is it to do with destruction of lungs

And why is emphysematous bullae not just called emphysema

As far as I know Daz (which is not very far!) you can have emphysema without the bullae. As to the trivial stuff, I have no idea. Perhaps BLF could help with the technical terms?

Cheers have had a look but there is nothing to explain trivial bit ... Even broch r us don't know some say its distrution of lung tissue and scaring

Cheers thanks for reply :)

Does not sound trivial to me!!

My consultant's e mail address is on his letterhead. I have written to him in the past and got a reply, admittedly after a reminder call to his secretary but may be worth considering..

Sorry i can't help, my expertise is more asthma/ chronic bronchitis/drugs area.

Currently i am trying the 'tupperware' strategy, keeping what i have for as long as i can!

Cheers .... Defo a pain just have to keep looking

Hi Daz

Seems a strange word to use

I've googled trivial copd trivial emph ... the term does occur and seems to imply what it seems to, ie a very low level of abnormality, perhaps it means those aspects of your lung function/damage are less significant than others?

Not very helpful I know.

I'd get back to him for more info if I were you

Cheers have been looking into it .... And is not clear yes others say its miner but others say if its not much to worrie about it would not be called bullea

A did read on BMJ website that both conditions are classed quit grim prognosis

Have a few isuss so I don't know if is trying to paint a not so grim picture for me but I would prefer a honest answer

Cheers all the best :)

Hi dazisnotsogood,

I wonder if either your consultant or yourself got the word wrong, and they meant to say 'idiopathic' instead of 'trivial'. That would make a bit more sense of the diagnosis.

Then it would mean that the bullea and bronchiectasis are from unknown origins.

And why is emphysematous bullae not just called emphysema? Because they are refering to the damage, not the disease, implying again an unknown cause.

Sounds like they are avoiding having to conclude that it (the damage) might have industrial origins?

Hope this helps

The bronch bit he as said is un-known .. But said my breathing problems are more to do with hypervetalation and not emp or bron but did say i have copd ... To be honest don't think he knows he just went on about my smoking history whitch i think is quite bad as he did not go on about my working history or asbestos exposer ... Now am quite pissed as i have been exposed to asbestos as long as i have been smoking so think a will raise that issue :)

Thanks for reply sorry anout going on

Don't know for sure Daz but I wonder by 'trivial bronchiectasis' he means mild bronchiectasis. thing is whether bronch is mild or severe the need to keep your lungs clear and do all you can to prevent further damage.

Hope you get an explanation in August.
