How to prevent COPD exacerbations (Chest) or not. Whatever the case may be.

At the bottom of the article it says " These numbers should be taken with a full dash of salt and kept in their proper context. " so please take this into account.

Interesting article though Puff, thanks for that. I guess it just shows that everyone is an individual with their conditions. I know that after both my PR sessions, I had an exacerbation - whether this is coincidental or the fact that both were in the winter and the weather was foul, no idea. :) x

Good morning Puff

I would recommend applying all that can be learnt on a pulmonary rehabilitation course. Managing symptoms and taking precautions that may well prevent exacerbations. Hopefully every PR course will / should cover this.

Such things as:

Having your annual flu shot

The pneumonia vaccine

Taking precautions during hot weather and cold weather

Having a good diet

Exercising regularly

Avoid person who may be infected with a cold or a virus of any kind.

Avoiding traffic pollution, or other pollutions) taking precautions to avoid same

Not smoking and avoiding passive smoking) ---- " ----- " ----- ----------"-------

Most all of these tips can be found on BLF pages also :)

i do most of that anyway. :)

just general guidelines for everyone with a chronic lung condition, the combination of applying these guidelines will far outweigh any medication alone in helping to avoid exacerbations.

Notice it says at the very end that Vit D dosn't help prevent COPD Exacerbations. I take Vit D, it really has never been actually proven that the vitamin helps. Never sure whether I should tak them or not.

It helps with vitamin C absorption. It hasn't been proven that it doesn't work either and I believe you cannot overdose on vit D - the body regulates it naturally. I take multi-vitamins daily and if I miss one day, I see a difference. :) xx

my respitory nurse said it was essential, for bones, especially if you take medicines containing steriods xx
