I worked hard in the garden last week which meant using my naler quite a lot, had shaky episode then both my nostrils started bleeding! Is this normal if you take your inhaler a lot? Still quite new to me. Any advice please? Xx

I don't know if it's the inhalers or not, but I have had some really bad nosebleeds over the last couple of years. The doctor cauterised blood vessels in both nostrils and that has cut the number of bleeds considerably. I didn't need to be doing anything when they came, and could start when I'd been asleep. Most of the time they were really very heavy and could last for more than 20 minutes. If they happen again I'd go and see your GP.

Reliever (Blue inhalers) can give you the shakes! Max dose is usually 8 puffs per day.

Nose bleeds are not usual

Recommended dose is two puffs four times a day but you can take up to 12 at a time if you need, when you have an infection or are severely out of breath. If you use a spacer with it it's more effective. Have you been to pulmonary rehabilitation, there you will learn all about the use of your inhalers as well as exercises to help your breathing

My husband has had a couple of minor nosebleeds when he has had to use his inhaler more than usual. As Caroleoctober recommends try to get on a pulmonary rehab course - (if you need more information the helpline might be able to give you more and how to get referred) - my husband was referred by the respiratory team. Fantastic for giving knowledge and helping to show you how to keep fit. Take Care. TAD xx

I'm on oxygen and if I blow my nose too hard it bleeds very badly for about 10 minutes, try to be careful when blowing but really need that good blow in the morning. I put it down to the oxygen not inhalers.

over use of blue inhaler (salbutamol, ventolin, the reliever medicine) can give you the shakes, it is also dangerous, medicines should be used as prescribed.

Unsure if salbutamol (blue inhaler) would cause nose bleeds, check the leaflet that comes with the medicine about other side affects.

For me in the days when that was the only medicine prescribed to me I would get the shakes on only 3 x 2 puffs a day

I believe the steroid inhalers cause skin thinning and I would think it makes sense that nose bleeds could result from that. However medical professionals may not agree with what I think or make sense of ;)

I meant to say it is also dangerous (to over dose)

You could be right about the skin thinning. In the three years I have been using Seretide 500 my skin has definitely got thinner. The problem is that I am 70 so it could just be general ageing.

Yes that is what the docs will say about the natural skin thinning process with age. I first noticed this in my 50s,but I was on asprin at that time as well, which also has an affect on this type of thing.

Thanks so much everyone, felt scared but didn't want to worry anyone in my family. I have got exercises from Bly and have started doing them, got exercise bike too so that should help. Big thanks again.

I was getting blood on my tissue when I blew my nose in a morning when I got out of bed, then for some reason I turned the central heating of at night while I was in bed and the bleeding as stopped. I use my Ventolin inhaler 200 one puff four times a day.
