The BLF will be holding an online surgery this evening. The surgery is only available to BLF members to listen to live this evening - but will be available later this week for everyone to listen to.
The surgery will be hosted by Karen Heslop, Nurse Consultant/NIHR Clinical Academic Research Fellow at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The surgery will cover topics such as depression, anxiety and their treatment as well as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and strategies to help you cope.
Just listened to the Webinar. I didn't find this much help I'm afraid. The first 15 minutes explained facts and stats about COPD which can be found online anyway and made me more depressed than I was to start with! How was that information supposed to help copd sufferers? The remaining time was spent stating the obvious ~ didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. I found it quite patronising too. Perhaps people who are newly diagnosed will find it helpful? I hope so because unfortunately I didn't.
I thought it described the cycle of breathlessness, anxiety and depression well, but I was wondering about the impact of the various drugs that people may be taking.
Can both the preventer and reliever inhalers cause anxiety for some and prednisilone cause mood change?
I was there at the start of this surgery but for some reason there was no sound, the slides looked interesting! I plan to follow the link and try again as I have found other online surgery's interesting.
However right now I need to get dressed as I am a member of my GP's Patient Reference Group and we are being interviewed by the local Newspaper for next weeks Patient Participation Awareness Week.
Being involved with the surgery has made information about my 'condition' more available and is helping me cope now that I am on my own.
