Wifey wants an E-reader for her birthday. Apparently it's a toss up between a Kindle Fire HD and a Nook HD. Now I know zilch about e-readers so if anyone can advise me which is the best buy please do. Fankoo. Bobby xx
I,m not that familiar with either Bobby but the Kindle Fire can access the internet & you can surf the net & go on face book ect I know this cause daughter has one

I actually bought a 7" tablet as I thought it would be a good back up if my laptop ever broke down and haven't been disappointed. There's just so more more you can use it for than just reading. I paid about £80 a year ago (and £20 extra for 3 year no quibble warranty) from Currys for a Versus, it's been fantastic. You just download the Kindle app (free) from Amazon and away you go. It's still small and light enough to hold comfortably and you can change brightness, page colour and print size just the same as a Kindle. I think they're even cheaper now 12 months on. Libby

Hi, you can download it to your laptop too, and perhaps should have said "android" tablet - don't ask me what it is!! Link to download below. Once you have bought a book you can send it to all or any of your devices.
I am using kindle at this moment. Wouldn't be without it. All sorts of tricks on it. Music, books, games and much more. A good back up team from Amazon. Wifey would like it.
You should get a nice holder for it but go Tescos ..cheaper
My Android tablet cost £60 from Amazon and has all the facilitys that most of the more expensive ones have.
If you go on to Google Play, you can download just about every App and Game either free or or for little money.
Yes, all great advice. Don't just get her a simple e-reader. Get her an all singing all dancing tablet that does everything and more than a laptop.
It's small enough to fit in her handbag (with a protective case), plays, music, radio, iPlayer, skype, Google map wherever she goes and so much more.
I have the Nexus 7. It's flipping brilliant you can even speak to it & tell it what you want. I've a little adaptor (£2) so I can connect it to my hard drive which has dozens of movies and photos on it. The picture and sound quality are the best in a tablet.
You can get from Curry's much cheaper than Amazon which doesn't discount it (because it's competition for it's Kindle).

I got the wife a Kindle from Amazon she uses it every day and downloading the books is easy, the only thing to look out for is how heavy the one you buy is, lying in bed holding a heavy one in your hand can be hard work

Hi, I bought a 7 ins MID tablet from Amazon, £43. It is fantastic, II bought it so my grand kids can play games on it when they come. I installed all the games free. I have security on it which I installed myself, Adblockers to stop those pop up ads and I installed the Kindle App from Google play store where you can buy the books you need. It is fantastic. I installed a free movies app where you can watch tv links and movies for free. I can surf the web. In fact I can do anything.
How come you lot know so much more about these things than I do? I feel like I am trapped in a time warp. Nevermind, I am going back to my new transistor radio. Thanks to all of you for your help Bobbby xxx
Just one quick comment! I'm now using a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 which is great. I've had both the Kindle Touch and Kindle Fire and loved them but unfortunately had problems with 'freezing'. In the end I decided to go with the Samsung. With Kindle you are also tied to getting books from Amazon. Whatever you choose, happy reading!
Not only can you download the kindle app to your laptop and tablet but also to your smart phone which is handy if you are waiting somewhere when you don't have your tablet with you. Keep smiling.

I have a Kindle Fire, and it's brilliant! There are so many good, free books available for the Kindle. Yes, Amazon is the main site to visit but others do Kindle books (Waterstones for example). Happy reading!
