Bruising

Hi can anyone help or give me some advise on bruising and breaking of skin obviously due to steriods. My legs and arms are almost black and in this sunny weather I am covering up with trousers and long sleeves. Yes I'm vain! I am on a 12.5mg maintenance course of steriods and simbicort inhaler. Susie I feel your pain every part of me is bruised my dr checked my pallets so it's coming from oral steroids and steroid inhaler. I've tried Arnica(sp) with no success, so now I'm really watching myself and even that doesn't work. I was playing with my 2 year old granddaughter over the weekend and honestly she very lightly caught my arm and her little prints are now there making a most unusual design. So I'll be following this post with interest.

Hello Susie

I have the same problem but in my case it is because I take Warfarin.

When the weather is nice I usually wear full-length thin floaty skirts or loose linen trousers with thin, loose, Indian cotton tops with full-length sleeves. Because I'm not able to put a picture of the type of tops I wear I'll post a blog with a picture.

Like Copdber, I'll be looking for answers to your question.

same problem here as usual doc just says its the meds. I do try to keep my arms and legs moisturised which does help a little - good old E45 lotion is what I use.

Annes I've been looking for light summery maxie dresses and floaty but can't find any I have two problems first I'm only 5" and 9 1/2stone (thats on a good day) and second living in Ireland I don't have access to that many shops that is unless I go to Dublin.

I see people wareing them here just don't know where they but them.

E-bay (e-bay is my answer to everything).

Type in 'floaty full-length dresses' and with a bit of luck there will be something you like.

Good luck

Hi, I buy them from Next online. Don't know if you can get Next but there are lots of shops to buy them from online, I am only 5' and tend to buy the petitie range. Good luck.

Ye I can get next on line will have a look there later tonight Thanks for reminding I just didn't think of them I'm also now thinking of Wallis on line I'll have a look there as well. I checked out ebay this morning I was amazed to see all the things, Guess I've been missing out.

Have you tried Doublebase gel Susie? After many yrs on oral steroids I have the same problem and just have to wear trousers and long sleeves all the time - linen in summer to try and stay cool. I haven't had any breaking of skin since I started using Doublebase, but the bruises still happen if I'm not very careful.

I also use Doublebase cream which I get on prescription, I find I don't tear so much but still mark, mind you I am seventy and it does seem to happen more when you are older. Keep smiling.

Hi Annnec I'll have a look at eBay today. I've never used it before but I guess there's a first time for everything. I might put a sign in the wanted section "One pair of lungs wanted in good working order" I coughed so much last night I wanted to get my hands down my throat and pull mine out.

iv`e noticed if i catch my arm ( or any where)and break the skin it takes for ever to heal up,i assume that's caused by the steroids too

Yeah thats the problem, good job we don't have hot weather all year!! I'm going to try this doub le base gel a few people have recommended. Willing to try anything but on reflection I would rather have hot weatherr all the time and cope with the bruises. x

I bruise easily too but more down to the anti-rheumatic drugs and genetics. I use those body moisturisers with the sparkly bits - there's a good one in Sainsburys own Dirty Works range, (plus complementary body washes, sprays etc at a reasonable price). The bruises are still there of course but I think the shimmer effect makes them less obvious.
