Hello Carol

If you haven't pulled a muscle or had a bash and you cannot account for the pain then you have to keep on at your GP. I would suggest that you see another GP in your Practice.

It's all very well for your GP to nod and give you another type of painkiller he/she is not the one having to cope with the pain.

Perhaps a call to the BLF Helpline would give you the direction to go in.

I hope that you are soon free from your pain.

Love and hugs (maybe not the hugs because that would cause you more pain)

Annec

Thankyou for responding you are right it is so frustrating xx

Definetely needs investigating, could be a hernia etc.no good to guess, just get firm with your Doc.tell him you want it investigated! Good luck xx

I too have suffered with the intense pain under the ribs, several visits to the Doc's and like you a nod of the head and take the paracetamols, you have damaged the muscles , then a bulge appeared, just a hernia, inoperable because of copd, we apparently cough too much and it would just pull apart again. I can't take morphine based pills, after the hospital gave me some and they caused a violent reaction.

One thing I did discover was that trapped wind causes a very similar pain, and equally painful, I was told to try Windeze capsules or similar they certainly help sometimes.

I sat on the bed one night almost crying in pain for a hour, and in desperation took some Gaviston Advance it took about ten minuets and the pain went, never realised how much wind/indigestion can hurt. I am not suggesting you have the same, but it might worth a try.

Thanks for replying, sometimes I feel like it is trapped air or a trapped muscle or something, I too take gaviscon to relieve it but the relief doesnt last for long, I sometimes think I have a blockage of some sort ! thats what it feels like, the pain is allways in the same area bottom lower right lung grrrrrr take care once again thanks x

hello carol, the reason I am asking is that I went though the same as you and the only difference at that was I was prescribed 2 morphine based drugs don't know if it was the dosage but within 2/3 days I knew there was something wrong got the GP to drop the mgs and 2 days later could hardly walk for a pain in my sternum, and because of my P/Fibrosis and RA I thought just another pain and for 5 days I got worse and the GP was in everyday the hardest part was trying to tell them it was not my lungs, I told them it was viral or infection and I refused to take anymore morphine and 5 days later they put me on anti/bios to late what it was left me with reduced lung space on mobility which I cant get back, take care mattcass

I sometimes get a stitch cramp after a meal when my stomachs full if I have a coughing bout.

The pain is not constant and the stitch passes with a hot water bottle having more effect than pain killers. I feel treating pain without knowing a cause is reason enough for a second opinion that will investigate further in case there's more than COPD.

Have you ever had an ultrasound scan for gall stones,I was having pain inn my stomach with the pain also on my right side under my ribs.Dr sent me for scan, went yesterday, and I have a big gall stone, will have to wait for results to go back to Doctor.Meanwhile I am off to Papworth tomorrow,an x ray of my chest showed fibrosis, this was done in local Birmingham hospital,I asked to be referred to Papworth, will let u all know how I get on,it's probably IPF,as my mum had this.Keep on at your doctor and find out what's wrong.
