Try olbas oil on a tissue it helps break up the mucous

Ok I will have a bottle somewhere in the house. Thanks azaard

If you get any worse don't hesitate to call NHS direct or the emergency service.

You may need to take the prednisolone as well if you have them at home, if you are not sure NHS Direct can advise you about that and anything else you are unsure of.

Gargling with anti bac mouth wash 3 times a day may help stop the bugs multiplying at the back of your throat.

Get plenty of rest and drink plenty of fluids to help keep the mucus thin and cough up easily, better off your chest for sure.

Take good care and hope you are feeling better soon.

I live in Ireland so can't use your services but I will go to the a an e if it gets worse. Right now it's just staying the same no better no worse. Thanks for all the tips I 'll gargle with the mouth wash hadn't thought of that before.

Why are you not taking steroids as well ????

copdber profile image
copdber in reply to raptor

Don't know raptor dr never prescribed any. Thinking about it she probably should have.

Please remember if you think you're going to get into trouble get medical help.

Should you neglect to do that you could end up with pneumonia and it can be a hard road back from that.

Take care and good luck,

Chris

Thanks Chris I will I got pneumonia a few years back and ye it was a hard road i thought at the time I was never going to get back on my feet.

Its Friday - It is possible that the antibiotics aren't having the required effect - ring your surgery and ask their advice. All the best from Anniex

O Anniex I didn't want to be seen as a worry wort or over reacting I suppose it would have been the sensible thing to do. Hope I don't run into trouble with this.

All good advice,as usual,do hope you feel better soon. Please do let the Doc know, before the weekend (why do things always happen at weekend?!) Antibiotics,do take a good 3 days to kick in usually, but with your exhaustion etc, would definetely follow that up,good luck.

Take care, Wendells xxx

Thanks Wendells I will.

All good advice!!

I find steam helps but having been there and got the Tshirt many times I feel for you!!

Also ensure that you drink enough. I am sure this helps.

Three days isn't long for antibiotics to get up to speed, however if you are no better tomorrow or sunday or Monday you will be worse and exhausted.

Have a chat with the GP/nurse today, and ask some what if questions so that you know what to do if things get worse, stay the same or hopefully start to improve!!! Have a plan and know when to phone the cavalry!!!

Personally, I would want to be on oral steroids BUT that is my experience. This may not be the same for you

Best wishes

Kevin

As Kevi says, ABs sometimes don't kick in until near the end of the course from what I gather. Not everyone is given steroids as well. My specialist won't let me have them in my rescue pack, he thinks they are best for more advanced copd than mine, due to the side effects.

I am no expert though, and I am sure others are, as I have only had ABs 2 or 3 times in my life.

Lynne you've been so lucky or maybe I should say healthy. I have lupus as well as copd so I'm afraid I have more anti b's this year than the 3 years since I was diagnosed.
