Glad to help
Yes I believe it does support all ages . As you can see the largest amount is in the 60/70 bracket which shows how disease and danage eventually attacks our bodies.
Personally I find it heartwarming to see the support that is so freely given to each other regardlees of age. So grateful
I have always hated being a statistic !!
Giulio, I hate surveys too, they are always loaded to the one who asks the questions. Mic

Yes
It does seem to support people of all ages which is good. x
Has I am in the minority being slightly over 70. Yes I can say with experience it is getting there. Bless
I just like the fact that we wrinklies can be IT literate enough to join interesting chatrooms and answer surveys, whilst having no shame whatsoever when we ask a five year old to come and fix the screen or something.
Take care, everyone. Catching other sicknesses, that do the rounds in winter, exacerbates your present problems, whilst your resistance might be low.
I've had COPD for a number of years, but going for the full monty respiratory tests on the 14th, to see if I might be lucky enough to qualify to join the sty of guinea pigs at the Royal Brompton, in the lung volume reduction coils programme. Will let you know how it goes.
This site scared the living daylights out of me at first, reading all the problems from others, I spent the first month or so waiting to get worse and probably die! Diagnosed in June after a week or so in hospital on oxygen, sent home with inhalers, no proper information so I joined the site. My G,P says the Consultant's letter was sketchy, Practice Nurse said much the same. I still do not know what stage I am at or what my readings really are. I have come to the conclusion that I probably don't actually need to know. If I get any worse I will be the first to know and act accordingly.
I do read the site daily, but skip a lot, but see that a lot of subscribers feel the need for this site, it is mostly because their lives seem to have a preoccupation with their own conditions. bulletins are really necessary for them. therefore this site is valuable in that case.
The nicest thing is that people are not judgmental about smoking but kind to one another, supportive and humorous. Love the jokes too! I don,t contribute as I have nothing much to say. Best regards from me.
Live each day as you want to,it's your life.I put my health issues to the back of my head, there's an empty space there where my brain used to be and take each day as it comes.
Ha Ha. Goodonya. Well done Strummer1,that is the corect attitude to take.
I have moderate COPD but now I live my life and COPD has me. That's the way it should be. It's taken 2.5 years to turn it round but you can do it and it's worth it. Don't look back at what might have been. Look forward into a new chapter and go for it. You can't change the past but you can change the future. Good Luck xx
The people on this site are fantastic and very supportive no matter how old u are. Nice to share views and opinions with different age groups too. Xx Sonia xx
I am a new user of this site, however, from what I have seen & read,it seems to cover most ages !
I'll be 81 in two months time. I enjoy reading the ups and downs of people with lung conditions as I am one of them. My iPad is a great boon to me - it occupies me when I have to rest. a game of scrabble is a good diversion from discomfort, I have played many games, some against my son in Sydney.
Makes me realise how little I know and have decided to consult the gp and ask some questions.
Makes me feel confident to go and ask some questions at the surgery
I am well looked after !
Good representation over the whole spectrum, as the majority of respiratory conditions do not present in the first 3 decades. I have found reading the site interesting & helpful, and working with BLF has enabled me to be more assertive about limitations in respiratory care both locally & nationally.
I bury my head in the sand sometimes , I'm not stupid but its just so scary the things you read ,so I tend to look then switch off ,think I'm a bit of a coward really ....
There seems to be few people under 50 using this community - but that reflects the incidence of lung diseases. I am sure that BLF give their support to all ages. Many people struggle with COPD for years before being diagnosed and maybe they could reach out to them to raise awareness of the many useful medications available.
I'm one of the under 50's and, whilst my symptoms and their causes are perhaps less clearly defined than in others, I have found the site hugely informative and supportive both from the BLF staff and the forum members. Thank you to the BLF and the forum.
Really helpful site. I was not diagnosed until 50 years old and my symptoms were extremely minimal at that time. Had just developed GERD too. The diagnosis was found on a CT scan checking for my GERD problem, not respiratory, so it was a big surprise. Curiously, after being officially diagnosed with bronchiectasis, my condition became very apparent and has got worse over the four years since diagnosis! Is this the mind affecting the body? Or just that the bronchiectasis is going alongside the persistent GERD problem. These are all difficult to comprehend conditions. I have learnt a lot on this forum from many caring people. stillmovin1
Hi I had a ct.scan and was found to have bronchitis too, since then it has been so bad, plus I have Asthma and c.o.p.d, too, I'm on max tablets plus nubuizers too, I was diagnosed 5 years ago with the c.o.p.d, Asthma I have had all my life, the Bronchiectasis was diagnosed last year, yes some times it's hard going and then we get brilliant days and I love my life , this may sound crazy but it's true, I hope what ever you are going through I hope you have good days too,
Hi Lyn45 illnesses seem to come in batches for a lot of us don't they! I am glad you get good days to make up for the bad ones. I suppose I do have good ones when I have a night's rest and am not worrying about other things in my life. Sometimes, you get into a circle of worry and symptoms flaring up and one exacerbates the other, doesn't it? Good days are when some problems are resolved and I can get that out of the picture and when I sleep well and can eat without GERD symptoms and just forget that I have any health issues for a brief period! February is coming up slowly and that usually is a dark month (literally!) for a lot of people, so I find that if I can get through that, then that is an achievement! Take care and keep well. xx stillmovin1
Yes it does support all ages, as any diseases don't know about age it just strikes
I was 45 when I was diagnosed with alpha one antitrypsin deficency, there is up to 3 per cent of all copd patients still not rightly diagnosed and who indeed suffer with A1AD , so stats here could indeed be wrong! Until we correctly diagnose this is a guideline, A1AD is similar in presentation to COPD, EMPHYSEMA and due to the ignorance of the Doctors and the medical community at large many will never realise they had A1AD and not COPD / EMPHYSEMA......A1AD is first and foremost a liver disease but mostly patients present with lung problems and a smaller percentage with liver....please ask for a Alpha One Antitrypsin Test if you are suffering either COPD /EMPHYSEMA AND ARE PRESENTING SYMPTOMS IN YOUR 40's! This is a simple test and can be obtained readily and easily, this is a genetically inherited disease, so if in doubt check! The Doctors will not!!!! If you need further info on test kits please pm me and I will pass on details ....We have to raise awareness of this because many people are wrongly diagnosed !
I think the Forum supports a variety of age groups & that is good. The only downside I have noticed is that older people do not have the same access to support as working age adults. Therefore, some reponses that try to be helpful are actually incorrect. For example, older people do not get mobility support, (unless they received this before age 65, in which case it continues) plus they only get carers, if they meet many LA's strict eleigibilty criterea, that is, if you can get out of bed, wash & dress yourself, then people do not qualify for care support. Older people's care is very much about a basic quality of life. Not all older people have children & if they do they are not always in the area to help, so life can become very isolated & restrictive. Love Mx
I agree Flibberti ,
I am 36 now, I have both COPD and Bronchiectasis, whilst a majority of members are older and wiser than me. I find the information invaluable on how to manage both my conditions from the experts the people who live day to day with these horrible illnesses.
Looks like I'm in the largest group.
This site is v.use full and all people on it thay know a lot and can or will try to help you with things as best as thay can or for a chat

I guess it does, but I don't seem to see very young people on here, might be wrong
I have been benefited a lot
Helps to build your self esteem and confidence as being told you have C.O.P.D. knocks you for six until you realise others have it too and they are all brave and fighters.
Wonderful group of brave, kind and knowledgeable people.

60 years
Yes i do think it covers all ages.
never considered the age thing up to now , but I think the community does what it says on the tin irrespective of age.
Have always had a barking cough, whooping cough as a baby, but only just been diagnosed with Bronchiectasis at the age of 80, so I think I've done well. 3 stays in hospital over the last year, we'll see what happens now. Learning to live with it. Lucky to live in Jersey, nice fresh air, able to swim when the water gets warmer.
Nice to read how other cope but have not written in before.
never mind the wrinkles lol
Yes definately. It is brilliant for information and nice to know there are others out there struggling as we do.
Born in 1949, I realise that I am aging every day!!! But when I start playing the flute, I feel like a teenager! Mic
I am 66years old and yes support people of all ages.
It is pleasant to know that if some one need help or support there is a place that will have support and possible answers to questions. The best one can do with a disease like COPD,depending on servility is,listening to your body.
