hi, has anyone had a cystoscope and was it painful? I’m scheduled for one and concerned about no numbing. Thank you!

Why is there no numbing? I am supposed to have one too, next week and am scared stiff.

As tommothytompkins explained, they shoot in a gel that eases any pain. I was a tad worried about my first one. I've had five now. The embarrassment was more hurtful than the procedure. All the best.

I've had a couple. They're not painful, but they used a numbing gel each time. While they're doing the examination you are not really aware of the scope. The only thing I had was irritation to my urethra afterwards. It wasn't painful, just irritated, similar to when you get cystitis. If you can stay relatively relaxed it seems easier? It's difficult though because it's an undignified procedure, but necessary for your health.

The thought of it is worse than anything as well as embarrassing. I was in a lot of pain before the procedure so I was ready to find relief. They did use some type of numbing.

The embarrassment is worse than the procedure. An initial ouch when the scope was put in and then it was ok. A bit sore when weeing afterwards for a day or so. Hope all goes well.
