I’m a 47 year old female and in recent months I have been struggling urgency when I need to pee. I literally go from not needing to go to omg I’m going to wet myself in no time at all. I take various medications and have done for years but there have been no chances and this is a new problem. I have several health conditions including diabetes but according to recent tests that it well controlled. Maybe it’s an age thing, I don’t know, all I do know if how humiliating it is when out in public and I have to dash cross legged to the toilet and sometimes, far to many times I have an accident. What can I do to change this?

Sorry to hear of your incontinence problem. It's hard to deal with when it first starts but you need to visit your doctor and find out the cause of the problem. First of all you will probably need a bladder ultrasound and during that they also test your bladder for emptying and how much it can hold. You may need to visit a urologist further along the track. I suffer from Overactive Bladder which means I feel the need to go but really don't need to. I don't have your problem where I release urine involuntary. Usually you need to start a bladder diary where you write down how often you need to go and how much you pass. Sometimes pelvic floor exercises can help - strengthing the pelvic floor can help the problem. There are different sorts of drugs which can help but sometimes they are difficult as they can cause dry mouth, constipation, high blood pressure. First Thing you need to do: see your local GP and explain your symptoms and get those early tests done.

HiThat's totally me too.

Total, uncontrollable, complete bladder voiding unexpected with no warning. I can't see any pattern to when it occurs. After 6 mths and it not seeming to go away I went to gp.

He thinks I most likely have urge incontinence and stress incontinence as I have previously when coughed or sneezed had a small leak.

Hes loath to put me on pills as on lots already for my fibro. He has referred me to our local bowel and bladder clinic and the district nurse for incontinence pads. So just waiting to hear from both.

It's so hard as I'm scared to go to work incase it happens, generally scared to go anywhere as due to health conditions cannot move quick enough to get to a bathroom.

Hoping to hear soon and get some answers.

So go to your GP and get the ball rolling.
