UTI?

I’m hoping someone can offer me some insight. Apologies in advance for the long post.

On 14th December I went to the doctor with a suspected UTI. She did the dip test and said it was positive and gave me a prescription for amoxicillin. My symptoms improved then returned after Christmas so I went back, doctor did another dip test which again was positive so I was given cipro and my urine was sent off to the laboratory.

The cipro did nothing to improve symptoms so I treated the UTI myself with D-Mannose. I thought it had cleared up (I felt almost 100% better) but then the symptoms returned so I went back to the doctor. She checked my lab results which showed unlikely infection despite the positive dip tests. She also did another dip test which was negative. The doctor referred me for an ultrasound of my ovaries and uterus, I’m awaiting an appointment.

But this morning when I urinated there was bright red blood when I wiped. None in my urine but a small amount the tissue.

My symptoms are frequent urination but not a lot coming out, pelvic and back pain. I also have some hip pain along with tiredness.

It’s worth mentioning that I had exactly the same thing happen a year ago, three lots of antibiotics didn’t work ended up using d-mannose and I’ve been fine until now. I also had an abdominal ultrasound at the time which was normal but the doctor didn’t check my ovaries and uterus.

The blood when I wiped has frightened me. I intend to get another appointment tomorrow but has anyone had a similar issue with a UTI? Thanks for reading.

Hi, I had UTI's for over a year and a half. Allergic to antibiotics. Tried many supplements, D-Mannose didn't clear up infection. I then tried Allibiotic CF. Bingo! Finally. Then I was able to have Urodynamic Testing. Results:dx - Neurogenic Bladder(first got that dx in 2010) with Sensory detrusor Overactivity. It means the messages from the brain, CNS are dysfunctional. A neurological dysfunction. Caused by MS, stroke, damage to spinal cord, Parkinsons. I did have, last year some bright red blood when wiping. Urologist couldn't figure out why. No repeat of that. Ask for Urodynamic Testing and use caution with Cipro. Read up on it. The natural Antibiotic , Allibiotic CF is affordable and no side effects. I haven't had another UTI since I started taking it. Hope you can get more help.

Hi, I'm sorry you've struggled so much. Has your doctor given you a referral to a urologist? If not this could be helpful. I had uti symptoms for years and pelvic pain, for the past 4 years had been in and out of hospital for pain and no one could tell me what was wrong. I've had blood in my urine, positive dip sticks and countless antibiotics, none of which got rid of my symptoms and my cultures were always negative. I was sent for a cystoscopy with hydrodistension of my bladder and they found I have interstitial cystitis (painful bladder syndrome). It causes all the symptoms of a uti without an infection, plus pelvic and back pain and other issues. It affects everyone differently. At my worst I use the bathroom 50 times a day 😂 It also can come and go and people tend to get flare ups that can last anywhere from a few days to years. I used to suffer on and off, but flared up in August 2017 and it hasn't stopped yet.

I'm not saying this is what you have, you could have an infection that's hard to get rid of.But again a trip to a urologist would be helpful and the IC could be worth mentioning. I found out about it on a forum and asked my doctor which led to the tests that found my problem. It took 7 years of proper investigation and hospital trips. I finally got diagnosed at 23. Whatever it is I hope you find some relief and an answer soon. As for the red blood when you wipe, it could have been hemmariods (sorry if I spelt that wrong) or small tears from straining if you struggle to wee. I have urinary retention at times and really struggle to urinate and it results in some bleeding sometimes as I've pushed so hard. Sorry for the long reply, I hope you get some relief soon.
