How long for propranolol withdrawal to settle?

Hi

I've posted a couple of times about coming off propranolol. I'm down to 15mg per day (3 x 5mg) from 80mg. I've been 'ok' so far but today my heart started fluttering and my apple watch said it was 137 bpm (I was sitting on the sofa). It came down quickly after about 30 seconds but it has frightened me.

I know this is rebound effect from reducing the beta blocker but can anyone give me their experiences on how long they took to get back to 'normal'? I am obviously expecting my resting heart rate to be higher. My PVCs have reduced massively since I've been tapering down and I feel a lot 'better' in myself so I know it's the right thing for me to be off them.

I am doing this is with the guidance of my dr (who actually said stop them completely) but i prefer to taper down. I'm not on them for heart problems, mainly anxiety which caused a racing heart.

Any advice very much appreciated. I feel very scared and alone :-(

It may not feel like it right now, but you're making progress! Keep courage. This will pass.

I was taking 10mg of propranolol twice a day for several years and weaned myself off it July/Aug this year. It took two months to settle down with episodes of high BP and heart rate (and a scary single episode when my heartbeat went down to 38 - I thought I was on my way out) but I now feel much better, although still exhausted easily. FYI I use an arm cuff BP monitor. I have a smart watch but this records about ten numbers higher than the arm monitor so I wouldn't trust your Apple watch alone. Best wishes and hang on in there!

Hi. Thank you so much for replying! Glad you’re feeling better now. Oh, that’s interesting about the Apple Watch not being accurate. My Dr also said that!

Would you mind telling me how you weaned off? Did you cut down to 5mg? And for how long? Did you notice anxiety got worse when you finally stopped?

Thank you !
