AS the only monarch I have ever known I will be watching the funeral service on TV but dipping in and out of the rest. What is every bode else doing? Are you working (e.g. paramedic, nurse, etc.), attending, watching on TV or maybe just watching the highlights tonight?

I am watching, I had a great deal of respect for Our Queen and am sad to see her passing.

I am watching, especially the processions. When travelling from Northolt, this was the route the ambulances followed to get me to and from hospital. And the journey to Windsor will go past the door, well I think it will.

We have been watching as a family Michael, 4 generations together. The children have done some fun history & geography activities and baked some delicious cakes with their mum & dad ready for a cream tea later. Me & hubby laid flowers at Windsor last weekend too.

Ive found it all very moving. I attended Lady Di's funeral and can't help remembering and thinking how well her boys are coping 👑❤️

Hello :-)

That must have been an experience been at Lady Di's funeral

I think he Queen would have given her seal of approval today even though so sad to watch :-) x

Have been watching on TV and talking to my brother who lives in the States and as been there over 40 years, set his alarm to get up to watch live! he just keeps saying it’s magnificent and no one could compete with us! What a send off.

I got emotional but maybe lots of it was to do with Johns passing, but she as been there all my life and you tend to think she would go on for ever even though you know she couldn’t.

Evening BeKind,

I am ok, have my moments but taking it one day at a time. Found today really moving, just spoken to my brother and he’s made me smile said he hopes he is still around for King Charles Coronation what a spectacle that will be. He was 15 at the last coronation and remembers it well. I was 5 when the Queen was crowned and all I can remember is there was so many people in the front room crowded round the tv I was sitting on the floor with my cousins!

Hope your doing ok.

Best wishes Pauline

in reply to 080311

Hello :-)

You will have your moments but glad that you are working through them

Your Brother sounds a character :-)

Never seen a Coronation so that would be another experience

Wonder how long they will leave it before they do it 🤔 :-) x

I've been watching all of it. I had the greatest respect for the Queen.

It's amazing how emotional I still feel, even though I never knew her. I know it's a very solemn occasion, but everything looks so beautiful.

Hi MichaelJH, a day of quiet reflection, watching the funeral and thinking of loved ones who have passed too. I gave myself a challenge this week, I have struggled with a lot of anxiety since my CABG nearly 12 months ago. I decided I would book a ticket to get the train to London to pay my respects. I was very aware that if I felt very anxious on the day I would not go. Anyway I managed it and I am so glad I did. I walked more than I have ever done since my operation. The people on the train on both journeys were really lovely, all of us strangers but with the common aim of wanting to pay our respects. It was a glorious day the sun was shining and I am so grateful to have been able to experience the atmosphere. Take care, Judi

hello Michael. I do remember Princess Elizabeth as she was, the day she stepped off the aeroplane from Africa, as our new queen.

I have felt very tearful on and off since she died, when the many occasions and tributes have been shown to us. I agree with so many saying she lived a good life, and carried out her duties impeccably. I shall never forget her wonderful smile.

Due to the head of my L prosthetic hip, dislocating last Thursday evening, I have been in hospital since, but did watch most on my I pad!.Not up to date yet as fell asleep during the afternoon.

5th time hip has come out, on waiting list for revision, guess waiting list pretty long!

Only had to wait for ambulance from 9pm till 1am, last time in June, it was from11 pm till 6am. It is what it is, but until the IV Morphine goes in, its ———-

I’m in East Surrey Hospital, and couldn’t be looked after better. Great caring staff, and although bank holiday, physio and OT have visited. Discharge procedure to start tomorrow!

sending best wishes to our heartie family xx

Watched lots of it. Very well done. The bit that really got to me was when they took the orb, sceptre and crown off of the coffin, and the chamberlain broke his staff. It suddenly seemed so final.

It's as well it didn't happen in that hot spell. Imagine wearing those uniforms in 40-degree heat!

Heyjude31 profile image
Heyjude31 in reply to RufusScamp

I agree RufusScamp. The taking away of the crown, almost seemed brutal even though it was part of the whole process and ceremony. It said that she leaves us as a ‘simple Christian sole’. I find that quite difficult to appreciate having been our queen for so long. I am so grateful that she was our monarch for so long. Take care,Judi

I watched it all with my husband at home . A very fitting tribute and farewell to our Queen. Did you notice Prince George biting his lip as he walked behind the coffin? That just about had me crying buckets!

Glued all day!

Putting my cards on the table I am a Royalist but would like to believe that most people respected her and the service she gave to this country for 70 years.

I thought everything went like clockwork I couldn't fault anything, I would want something more upbeat for my own funeral but this was what she wanted and everyone carried out her wishes to the nth degree.

All the armed forces did an absolutely bang up job especially ESPECIALLY the bearers, fabulous, my heart was in my mouth when they were going up the steps of St Georges Chapel but the Queen was in very safe hands, there must be some very proud family doing some justifiable bragging tonight

The Police have been solid throughout, I thought I had switched channels 2 days ago when I was watching a report on the queues waiting to see the Queen laying in State. I saw a couple of Police Officers with Heddlu Police on their backs, then realised that they were there as part of Mutual Aid, great to see them working together. Even the Mets have never policed such a HUGE event.

I planned before hand so had snacks to hand, but my appetite hasn't been brilliant lately so will be handing them over tomorrow,

I was very proud to be British today, goodbye and thank you Queen Elizabeth and God save the King!

I watched the whole thing. Could not keep my eyes off it. I was astonished that I felt so emotional, but full of praise for the ceremonial. I absolutely agree about the bearer party - such young looking men who managed to look as if they were lifting cotton wool, when we know they darn well weren't. I hope they enjoyed a few pints this evening - they certainly earned it.

I am a sucker for coral music and the sound of those church choirs does something to me - and she chose such beautiful pieces - all composed by British composers I noted. The sound of the funeral marches played by the military made me swell up. But the moment I shed a tear came when the crown, orb and sceptre were removed from her coffin and the Lord Chamberlain broke his rod and placed that on the coffin before she finally left us.

A truly astonishing day of extraordinary beauty and mixed emotions.

I thought the last verse of "Love divine, all loves excelling" (tune Blaenwern) with the altered harmonies and descant, truly out of this world. I had tears in my eyes.

We went to see the coffin passing by very nearby.I had a very good view. We also watched the abbey service before we walked up and the Windsor service when we got back so a real day of it.

I watched all of it on TV, so beautiful and moving, completely lost it when they removed the crown, orb and sceptre. I was born a few weeks after Her Majesty's coronation, Mum watched the live broadcast with my grandma at the local cinema. Like for so many, the Queen has been a constant in my life. The bearer party were amazing, they and their families should feel very proud. Sleep in perfect peace your Majesty, reunited with your beloved Philip, your strength and stay,. You were our strength and stay.

Hi Michael - I'm a bit late replying as I was watching the funeral most of the day! I switched the telly on before the start around 10:30am (BBC) and watched until around 1:30pm then switched the telly off. I then watched the parts I'd missed later in the evening. Like yourself, she was the only monarch I'd ever known and it's just so sad. Everything was so dignified, traditional and historical really, and the various Choirs and choral music was out of this world and added to the sombre nature of the event. Carol x

Cee-Cee1 profile image
Cee-Cee1

Completely agree Thatwasunexpected, they all looked like youngsters to me too at my advanced age of 62! The respect and care from them was absolutely phenomenal and the way they handled what must have been a really heavy weight looked so gentle it was as if they were carrying spun glass. The removal of the crown, orb and sceptre followed by the breaking of the rod just about finished me off. Carol

Hi Michael,

Like you I had intended to dip in and out, but found myself more dipped in than out! I thought that the tone of the occasion was just right, contrasting the formal Westminster part with the Windsor less formal. It must have been strange being involved with her own funeral, but her attention to detail really showed.

There will never be another like her. She will remain in our memories for the rest of our lives.

(Now I need to do some exercise to counteract all that sitting about watching yesterday. 😀)

A beautiful send off. Watched all day. So so sorry for our new King. His eyes just well up everytime he hears the national anthem especially the words “God save the King”. The bit that got me most though (as I’m a sucker for the animals) was Emma, the Queen’s pony at the side of the road at Windsor along with Mick & Sandy, the two corgis. They will surely miss their mum and wonder where she’s gone. I’m sure the Queen will be looking down on them as well as her family of course - with pride at how dignified they all were.

When my heart event happened earlier this year, I daren’t go to sleep in case I didn’t wake up and leave my dog behind. Who would care for him the way I do? At last I have got my head around that bit now and make the most of him. I understand the Queen’s love for her animals - they are there no matter what and love you for what and who you are. I’m sure Emma, Mick & Sandy will be very well cared for but will sense a loss. Animals are sensitive souls too ❤️🐾🐾 🐴 ❤️

We chose to drive from Cardiff to Windsor the day before and slept there overnight, managing to secure a wonderful vantage point on Long Walk near to the gates of Windsor Castle.

It was a long cold night with only a camping chair and sleeping bag allowed. I had accidentally bought a child’s sleeping bag which therefore wouldn’t do up all the way 🤣🤣🤣.

I was cold during the night, an hour sleep all night. But had all my medication with me and plenty to eat and drink. My son and his partner came too.

Watched the main screen and bowed as the procession and hearse passed my eyes, on her way to her final resting place.

May take a few days to rest and to recover lost sleep but I have the memory to last a lifetime.

RIP Ma’am ♥️

I’m very lucky to have been there ♥️

I didn't intend to watch all of it, especially the hearse going all the way to Windsor but I couldn't tear myself away, it was just so amazing. The millions of flowers laid out along eth long walk in WIndsor were just unbelievable. My cousin is helping there, mostly doing those flowers. I cracked up when they passed Emma her horse and Muick and Sandy her dogs; terribly emotional when the orb sceptre and crown were replaced on the altar but the most powerful thing for me was the piper playing "Sleep Dearie Sleep", apparently chosen by the Queen herself. I watched her Coronation as a 5 year old and feel privileged to have watched her funeral. Only one other funeral has stayed vividly in my mind and that was Churchill's when he was taken down the river and all the cranes bowed their heads. She was more than a QUeen, she was the mother of her country and I'm p leased that over the latter years we saw some of the real person behind the Pomp and Ceremony. I met her by accident years ago in Windsor when we were walking our dogs after a dog show there. Just a delightful lady in headscarf and mac, walking her own dogs who stopped to ask if we'd won. We didn't even realise who she was until the corgis ran up. RIP

what I lovely memory of meeting the Queen. Like you I was 5 at her coronation my memory is of the room being full of family and neighbours watching a tiny screen sitting on the floor with my cousins!

Again like you remember Churchills funeral and yes those cranes looking like they were bowing their heads! Very moving.

Yesterday was just amazing, all those young men and women giving their all to their boss! There must have been some very proud parents watching on.

Best wishes Pauline

Exactly what we did in 1953. The whole row of houses crowded into the only house that had a TV, kids on the floor at the front watching what was probably a tiny 9 inch black and white screen singing "As she rides in state through the palace gates" by Dickie Valentine. I've met a few of the Royal family by accident ( eg Princess Ann stopping to ask directions on a little country lane when my dad was in his work clothes walking the dogs -He was a coalman so you can imagine his embarrassment ! ) but that meeting the Queen was so unexpected it took ages to realise who she was. It wasn't face to face, she was behind a gate but saw us and came over to enquire about the dog show.

My heart went out yesterday to those oh so careful pallbearers.

Whilst I am a royalist at heart and had enormous respect for our Queen and our King, I didn't watch a great deal of it as funerals always seem to bring the thoughts of my own loved ones who have left.

The most poignant moments for me were the loan piper and then the tyrst (I think that is what you call a group of pipers), they were amazing, haunting and the airs on the back of my head stood up.

I feel the mantel has passed from a great queen to her son who won't reign as long but will prove to be a great king.
