travel insurance
Thank you. Its just a check up due to blood pressure issues but all under control. Had 2 previous heart attacks 5 years ago and i think its just to see if all ok.
Travel overseas with any heart condition that has not been fully diagnosed is not recommended and insurance companies will not cover you. Personal I would not go as it’s not worth the risk.
If you are going to Europe apply for a free GHIC Card via the NHS site. Beware of unofficial sites that charge a fee. You can use the card to access medically necessary care in most European countries such as emergency care and A&E visits. It is not a substitute for travel insurance but does cover essential medical care at a public facility for free or the local rate.As long as you have applied you are covered.
Do not be fooled by a thick card. Very basic cover in the country you are in.
Do I need travel insurance with GHIC?Yes, you still need travel insurance if you have a GHIC. The fact it has 'insurance' in the name is a bit misleading – the GHIC covers a lot less than a comprehensive travel insurance policy. Travel insurance will normally cover: Private medical treatment if necessary.
The GHIC will cover a percentage of your care, but not the whole amount. Husband cut his hand in France which needed stitching at the local hospital. His EHIC card, as it was then, covered 80% of the cost and he was sent a bill for the remainder which was about 20€. Not much to pay, but if you needed intensive care etc , the ‘top up’ cost could end up being very expensive.
It will be a risk.If you are travelling to a European country you may feel you are ok with the GHIC card for emergency cover but i have always backed that up with my own insurance.and if you are going to America do not even think about it. Have you tried Staysure?
Hi. I went with staysure but I also got quotes from All Clear. Navigator has also been previously recommended. I’m going away in nov and got a letter from the cardiologist saying I was ok to fly/travel. Good luck.
Hello, sorry to say but I don't think you'll get cover. Perhaps a consultant letter for the insurers if you have a diagnosis and stable but not under investigation. Consider diverted flights and repatriation will not be covered by GHIC. Can you refer the holiday perhaps
The Travel Directory has a whole bunch of insurance companies especially for people like us. I used Staysure.
I was in the same situation as you, noting I also have other not too serious health issues I have to declare. Eventually I got cover from All clear. Staysure would not insure me. However be prepared for an outrageously expensive premium, even for a week, although All clear were half the price of one company I approached. But if your angiogram is for an unidentified condition you may not get cover at all.
Good morning Ect15126. If you ring a company up and explain its not exploratory. It's a routine check up. You should be able to get cover. It's usually when you're going for something undiagnosed they won't cover you. Good luck and enjoy your holiday. Brian
The poster told you it's a check up so depends how the insurance view this
Try all clear
If you read my post above you will see I have recently taken insurance cover with Allclear, even though I have an upcoming angiogram which is classed as routine, and which was booked in April. I also have other health issues which I have to declare. I did find some providers won't accept you, some providers will, and some will but want a lot of money. And I am shortly going away for a week, just like I did in June, and am certainly of sound mind.
Life in general and also travel insurance cover are not binary.
