Hi all
Ive been prescribed Lansoprazole for stomach issues. I take bisoprolol 2.5mg daily. Has anyone taken the 2 together or perhaps its better to take them at seperate times. Ive been instructed to take the lansoprazole about an hour before food.
Any experience greatly appreciated
I have no idea how to take bisoprolol except to suggest you look at the instruction sheet, but as far as lansoprazole is concerned I take my daily dose shortly after I get up and before breakfast. I don't bother about leaving an hour between taking it and breakfast and haven't noticed anything untoward over the many years I have taken it and previously esomeprazole. Anyway I understand that the lansoprazole capsule is a time release medication so taking at the beginning of the day best protects you in your waking hours, when you eat and take any other meds.

I take lansoprozole with breakfast and my second one around 7 pm with my evening meal, I take all my other meds including bisop with breakfast the only other one I take is statin which I take with my evening meal even though you are supposed to take it at bed time but I can’t Swollow it with out food.
I take it (well equivalent as my bowels didn’t like L- so changed to another version) 1st thing as my understanding for me is that it’s to start the protection in the tummy before I start on the other meds which may be harsh on the tummy. On discharge from hospital that’s what the nurse told me to do so have carried on. Take bisoprolol 20 mins later with aspirin etc at breakfast then take statin & ezetimibe at 9 pm so it is hopefully working overnight.

I take lanzo/biso/statins/aspirin just before dinner but never later than 7 p.m. I have been having reflux issues on and off since starting on heart meds, and this year have resolved to do something about it. My GI specialist has put me on Gaviscon, so I have to space that out 2 hours before/after the heart meds. He also suggested i double up on lanzoprazole but. need to ask my cardiologist about that. Next up is an esophageal endoscopy (and "while we're at it" a colonoscopy😬)
I haven't heard about taking lanzo in the morning so will ask about that after the endoscopy.
It's funny about the timing. The only thing my cardio has said is that I should split up my bisoprolol -- 2.5 in the morning, 2.5 in the evening. I've read that aspirin is better at night but honestly given how hard I think it is on my stomach, I might ask about taking it in the morning, too....
Hi I take Lansoprazole in the morning 15 minutes before taking rest of my medication and before food. Gives a bit of time to line the stomach otherwise I would sometimes get heartburn.
I take 2.5mg Bisoprolol and 30mg Lansoprazole at the same time in the morning. I also take 75mg Aspirin as I have a bioprosthetic aortic valve. As a word of advice, after I had Covid resulting in low sodium, a local A&E stopped my Lansoprazole but this resulted in me becoming anaemic. Once restarted, I am ok again.
Bisoprolol works to reduce heart rate and has a small effect on blood pressure. Lansoprazole reduces stomach acid and reduces heartburn, acid reflux and protects the stomach from danage from (for example) aspirin. The two medicines work in very different ways and they do not interact. In my view you can take them together or separately and both methods will be equally effective. Lansoprazole works best on an empty stomach - hence the advice to take it an hour before food.
Hi There ,I used to take these two medications ,and no longer take now.I would take Lansoprazole before food first thing in the morning ,and the rest of my meds after food, and these were clopidogrel and Bisoprolol .If I’d taken them all together it would cause some stomach cramps and wind.So by taking them separately it lessened the side effects.
I take both without issue.
I was (eventually) told to take the Lansoprazole first thing on a morning about half an hour before food so it protects you on the inside.
Hi there, I'm also on LANSOPRAZOLE 30 mg and BISOPROLOL 2.5m. I was also recommended to take it atleast 1 hr before eating and then taking the rest meds which include Asprin & ISOSORBIDE. I've been on these for the last 2 years and I don't have any issues. Hope this helps and All the Best
I take Bisoprolol, Losartan, Rosuvastatin and Vitamin B with my breakfast cereal, followed by soluble Aspirin and a cup of tea. No issues whatsoever and no PPI (Lanzoprazole / Omeprazole) required.... thank goodness as PPIs make me ill. 😯
I take Lansoprazole before breakfast and Bisoprolol after it. I have been doing this for 5 years with no problems
Hi Danni - I take lansoprazole (30mg), Bisoprolol (2.5mg) and Clopidogrel (75mg) first thing in the morning before brekkers, Aspirin (75mg) before dinner in the evening and Ezetimebe (10mg) at bedtime with no really noticeable side effects (aside from the usual cold feet etc.). As an aside, I've also suffered from diverticular disease for a few years (only ever hospitalized with it once though). Since starting the 'heart' medication after my triple bypass in February this year I haven't had one single episode of tum/bowel problems, in fact my tum's been great - bit of a bonus really! 😀👍

After an endoscopy I was advised to take my antacid (rabeprazole) at least 20 minutes before breakfast - I then take all other morning meds including Bisoprolol after breakfast 🤷
My guidance is that I need to take the lanzoprazole 30m before food and the other pills which did at one time include bisoprolol.In hospital they just gave me them all at once!
I take 5mg Bisoprolol twice a day, plus Warfarin, Ramipril and Doxazosin. Have done for years now. Have taken both Omepazole and Lansoprazole at different times in the past. Omep didn't agree with me, changed to Lanso. Ended up in hospital for a couple of days after Afb episode as Pottassium levels v. low. Should have been having regular blood tests to check on this and I wasn't. Not certain but I think the Razole family can have that effect, it did with me but everyone's different and most will only notice benefits.
The leaflet in the box says it can cause low potassium. Thought maybe gp's would keep an eye with bloods
Mine didn't, only found out from pharmacist after the event. Mind you I didn't have much faith in the G P who prescribed them in the first place.
Did you have heart problems before taking lanzo or did the lanzo aggravate it?
Diagnosed with paraoxysmal Afb, out of the blue, 10 years ago. put on Warfarin and Ramipril at the time. Had a few 'wobbles' that took me off to A&E but things calmed down and sent home. Have had small hiatus hernia for many years with no problems but that started playing up, hence the Lanzo. When I had further episode of Afb the bloods they took in A &E showed low Potassium and I ended up spending 2 days on a ward being fed Potassium tablets. Now have regular 6 month bloods and so far no problems but I refuse to take Lanzo and if necessary just take Gaviscon.
Wow lots of people seem to take this combo of tablets. Have also been referred to ENT for a scope to see whats causing the constant feeling of something stuck in the back of my throat. Dr seems to think its heartburn related. Will try the lansoprazole. Currently just taking gaviscon when needed.
when i came out of hospital and had my meds changed for Lanzoprazole, i started taking it before breakfast and then my pills after breakfast, i kept them in my bedroom so it would be the first thing id do in the morning,. however after a while i started to forget it so i have been taking it when i take my normal meds sometimes before or after. i only ever burp a bit when i start exercise, normal time i don't notice it.
I find that taking both Bisorolol and Lansoprazole after my breakfast works best.
Hi I’ve been on the same tablets for nearly 4 years and take them at the same time in the morning before breakfast no problems as yet
My experience is that an antacid is routinely prescribed on discharge when you are given a few meds as a precaution. I discussed with my doctor and agreed that I wouldn’t bother to take the antacid after the first month. I have continued on a cocktail of ramipril, aspirin, bisoprolol, and statin with no negative stomach effects at all for years. Having said that I have always been able to eat anything - if you are like me you may not need them, see what your GP says
I take Lanzaprazole before breakfast, about an hour later I take the rest of my medication. My Consultation told me the lanz protects the stomach. This is why you should take it first.

I'm on both and take mine together have done for 3 years
