faint on Losartan?

Hi,

I've recently started taking Losartan to lower blood pressure (although quite low already) to take the pressure off a damaged heart. Does anyone know if it is a slow release tablet? I take at night but have started to get an awful faint feeling about 11.30 in the morning. I have been ok on all my other tablets and half a losartan until now.

The link is from India? I would recommend ignoring such googled searched articles. I am sure someone on our forum with first hand experience of similar will comment and as always your GP or cardio should be consulted

I suggest you talk to your GP or Cardiologist.

Another option would be to speak to a pharmacist or give the BHF helpline a call and speak to one of the Cardiac nurses who are very helpful.

Racist are you for real I do not have racist bone in my body. In considered the opposite. I am only advising on what I believe or forum is best at. Experience of others shared.

That is not a racist remark, he could just as easily have said it if it was a USA link!

As UK and most other countries have completely different approaches to medicine reviews and approvals, it is always wiser to use the UK data/information.

Hello wbiC

Would you feel comfortable with sharing with the forum members your lived experience of heart disease?

I note you live in Canada and I wonder if the approach to the treatment of heart disease is different to the UK?

Here is a link to EMC (electronic medicines compendium)

I take mine in the morning around 8am, around 11ish I feel very lightheaded not quite faint, but think if I got up too quickly it would be touch and go!

Tried swapping them to evening (moved Bisoprolol to morning), but strangely still get the same result around 11ish, so possibly not the Losartan, in my case.

Noticed my BP drops to ~85/~45 around the same time, normally ~100/~60.

However we are a peer to peer support group for those living with or caring for people with heart and circulatory problems.

No not my opinion. Here are the guidelines of the forum

The guidelines start with this

'Our community is a place for people affected by heart disease to find support and information.'

I am sorry to hear that you are in the position of needing an echocardiogram.

The term peer to peer support group is a term used here in the UK to describe a group of people with a shared experience such as a group of patients.

The emphasis here is that we have a lived experience of heart disease and bring unique insights into living with heart disease that even the most empathetic healthcare professional is unable to do.

How we feel about being a heart patient is important.

The view as they say is very different from the bed than from the foot of the bed.

You'll see several members are Heartstars.

Here is what the BHF said about HeartStars:

The eagle-eyed among you may have noticed that a couple of our lovely members have a special badge on their profiles, naming them as ‘Heart Stars’ – and I wanted to let you know what that means!

We’re looking out for active members of our new community to work with us as Heart Stars, to shape the community and help us make it a warm and welcoming place for people to talk about anything related to heart disease.

Our Heart Stars will be acting as friendly faces for members - helping people navigate through the community, referring people to existing threads that might be helpful, and telling me and the rest of the BHF team what we can do to make it a better experience for everyone.

It’s all very informal and dependent on how much time they'd like to spend helping us with the community, but it should mean that we have a great team to keep our new home ticking over well.

Hi Stonechick,

I have been on Losartan since 2011 after being diagnosed with high blood pressure and finding I had major issues with Ramipril and Amlodipine. I have found Losartan to be an excellent medication and have never had any issues with it. I have always taken it in the morning at breakfast. Following a heart attack, stents and then bypass surgery (2017/2018) I was prescribed other drugs, one of which was the beta blocker Bisoprolol.

The combination of Bisoprolol and Losartan gave me periods likes you describe and they were often in the evening. In consultation with the pharmacist at my GP practice the dose of the Bisoprolol was decreased, but I still occasionally suffer feeling dizziness, particularly when standing up when I have been sitting for a while. At the time that the decision to drop my Bisoprolol dose was taken, the pharmacist said that my dizziness might be caused by the Losartan, but I was only on 25mg so it was easier to reduce the Bisoprolol.

As you take Losartan at night, I wonder whether changing to taking it in the morning might improve the situation and move the period of dizziness to the evening when you are less likely to be active. You didn't say what dose you are on, but I would expect 50mg as that seems to be the commonly prescribed dose.

I hope that you get this issue sorted out soon.

Kindest regards,

Gerald

That's unusual. I'm fine on it apart from the occasional itchy ankle.

Hi, I take losartan potassium 100mg in the mornings. I did feel a little dizzy when I first took this but then always ate something before taking it and feel ok. Maybe try taking in the morning unless you’ve been advised otherwise. 😊
