Had my consultation with my actual own consultant

Finally ...... had my phone call, it was my actual own cardiologist!!!!!!

He mentioned several things but still no mri results ๐Ÿ˜ก he apologised and said heโ€™d personally get it sorted and ring me back in a few days ๐Ÿ˜ƒ ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป

He said my ultrasound showed my heart at the bottom is not pumping blood around properly so could be damaged which would also fit with the ECG.

Also micro vascular angina and what he called prinzmetal angina!!!!!

He said my ECG showed an extensive infarct age undetermined ๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿฅบ

So after saying that Iโ€™m now a bit scared until I get my results back !!!!!!

Fluffybee profile image
Fluffybee in reply to

I did, it was on an ECG I had in the ambulance in the spring, he didnโ€™t have a copy of that or a few others, so Iโ€™m going to email them to him tomorrow, he said it could be my heart May be damaged but wouldnโ€™t like to say more until heโ€™s seen the MRI results. Hopefully just a few more days ๐Ÿ™„

Hi - that sounds similar to the aftermath of my HA in July. I'm 51, male. My follow up MRI (which was done in October to see if the thrombus (clot) in my LV had cleared (it has) ) showed that "the tip of my heart is not working as well as it should" (my cardiologist's words). So I asked what that means - what's the tip of the heart, why is it important etc. He explained that our heart muscle is at its thinnest at the bottom (tip) of the heart, and is the area of the heart that suffers first when a blocked artery occurs at the top of the heart. I asked if it would recover - he sat on the fence a bit and said its 50/50 and I'm four months on from the HA. Reading between the lines I suspect it won't, and is perhaps dead muscle. My ejection fraction is 45% which he said was good considering the 'size' of the HA I had - they typically see an ejection fraction of 30% after a HA of my size. Normal ejection fraction is 55 to 60%. The consequence is I am more at risk of developing another clot at the tip of my heart so he has kept me on the Rivaroxaban meds, the original plan was to take me off it and reinstate aspirin. Next follow up is in January. Hope sharing this may help.

Right, so your heart isn't pumping at the bottom as well as he'd like, an ECG shows an infarction he wants more investigation on to check for damage, and you not only have microvascular angina, you also have what he's calling prinzmetal angina (I believe that is actually known nowadays as vasospastic angina but best to check with Milkfairy on that).

Not to ruin your evening but it sounds as though you've won something of an unfortunate lottery - but it's not all bad as now the hunt for the right treatment regime for you can get going in earnest.

That's a big plus despite the not so great results so far; the MRI results will likely show the amount of damage, if any, from the infarction among other things - GREAT to hear he's going to chase those results and will call you in a few days to update you.

I well understand you're feeling 'anxious' but what you've heard today, whilst not the greatest news on the surface, is a huge step forward towards working out a treatment plan and that's a very good thing!

Fluffybee positives are that you got speaking with the appropriate person who seems to have a handle on what type of angina(s) you have. Also he has taken on responsibility to chase the mri results which is also good. You know that these heart issues can be managed ( thereโ€™s always something in the toolkit) to help us so focus on that aspect please. My mum had a quadruple bypass at 39 following my birth she had AF and cornary artery disease all her adult life. The medics always had something to throw at it. She passed away in her 90th year having lived a wonderful life. Things may have got you down a bit today and thatโ€™s normal but the doctors are on it so keep pushing forward, all will be well...think your entitled to 2 walnut whips today x.

And hopefully in a few days he'll be able to give you your MRI results which hopefully will put the last puzzle piece together ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿคž

FluffybeeGood news that you got to speak to your Cardiologist.

I suggest you send the copy of the ECG the paramedics performed to your Cardiologist for review.

An ECG cannot be used in isolation to make a diagnosis.

The Cardiologist will I am sure chase up your MRI results and once they have all the information they will be able to make an more accurate diagnosis and then hopefully you can get a treatment plan.

As Sunnie said Vasospastic angina is the term more commonly used to describe coronary artery spasms/ Prinzmetal angina.

Sunnie2day profile image
Sunnie2day in reply to Milkfairy

WOOT - I'm learning:) But it's all thanks to you, Milkfairy, for example I would never have known to ask my cardiologist about MVA when he did the angio and it came up showing crystal clear arteries.

It was a lovely moment really, he did a double take and said 'You know, I think that's exactly what it is!' and a few days later he telephoned and said he'd put me on the list for the definitive test but he was becoming convinced MVA is the answer. No rush on the test, I'm no longer 'urgent' thanks to medication and lifestyle adjustments so I am continually bumped to the backest of the back of the queue but I would never have known to ask without reading your posts here.

Hope you're tucked up cosy and warm, all settled in for winter.

Iโ€™m now going to be more sensible with my diet, walnut whips are going to be a challenge, maybe only one box of 6 a day ๐Ÿฅด๐Ÿฅด๐Ÿฅด (joke)

So Iโ€™m with you on the eating better bit.

Since Iโ€™ve started on the heart meds on top of my original ones itโ€™s knocked me backwards big time, with the meds and the condition I donโ€™t do much exercise.
