Hi im hoping someone can offer me some reassurance to help me to stop going crazy with worry. At the end of October i had a 24 hour monitor fitted due to having missed heartbeats, i spoke to my gp last week and she said the results are ok they picked up some missed heartbeats but they weren't concerned well today i recieved a letter saying the cardiology department would call me on the 11th December to discuss my results im now going out of my mind worrying they have found something i suffer with anxiety so this has just set it off im just wondering if this us just protocol for them to call or not, im booked in for a scan on the 29th of this month just hoping someone can reassure me.

Thanks

Kelly x

As it's 2 month after your test you can probably assume it's a routine call to say nothing bad found. If there was anything concerning you would have found out quickly. I had a monitor 3 weeks ago and it was looked at next day while I waited and I was called into speak to the specialist so they don't waste time if something needs to be done. Try not to worry as that won't help.

Back in March this year , my scan showed bad news. The consultant was on the phone the next day. So it is likely your results will be ok and certainly nothing desperate nor urgent. I am having one of those 24 hr heart thingeys in 11 days.It does seem just a precautionary routine.

If they are not wanting to see you sooner, I would think you have no need to worry.

Kelly.

You GP has had the report so if they were worried they would have told you. The call from the hospital will be a routine follow up. Again if it were anything to worry about they would not leave it over two weeks to call you. Relax and stop worrying this is NHS routine to follow patients up after a couple of weeks. Its great that the NHS is slowly returning to some routine with all that is going on at present.

Take care.

Kelm no need to worry if doctors have already told you nothing much or a big deal. Feeling anxious and anxiety is natural but will not help. Relax it's nothing people have gone through much worse an living happily. You will also be ok try sharing with friends and family don't be alone.

I understand your worry BUT the consultant is under an obligation to feed the results back to you; and if they were not good, no-one would have mentioned anything yet. I am quite sure the phone call will alleviate your mind. To calm yourself, could you contact his secretary to see if the phone call could be brought forward?

Keep calm and good luck.

I'm sure that if it was something critical, they wouldn't wait weeks to contact you.I'd say don't worry but I know how you feel!

Hello Kelm241982, I would say it’s safe to say that the timescales involved would indicate that there’s nothing to worry about. Try & use the time to note down a few questions for the Cardiologist when they call. You’re likely to get a much more in depth answer than your GP gave too, so this should probably be seen as a positive thing. Anxiety can be a horrible thing & my Kardia mobile has clearly displayed an enormous difference in heartbeat pattern / form / misses between calm & anxious on many occasions. Believe me, calm is great & personally can be as simple at times (after a little practice) as a couple of breaths using breathing exercises.

Best wishes & good luck.

Steve

From personal experience, I would say take comfort in the long time span before you are called. Everyone in the health care business is very much overworked, so consequently when they receive patient test results or requests for consultation they are triaged, prioritised, the most urgent patients are moved to the head of the line so action is initiated.

It's normal for Cardiology to follow up with you. Irregular rhythms are common and usually not serious. But they may want to do more tests to be careful.
