Any one having problems with bleeding while at dentist
Yes the blood thinners make you bleed for much longer and more profusely. Your dentist should be fully aware of this if he knows what medication that you are on.
My dentist insisted on sending me to the Dental Hospital for an extraction. I was on blood thinners and have had heart attacks, so it might have been the combination of both.
It went fine, tho’ I was on the waiting list a year.
Thanks for reply happy you got sorted and it went well. My appointment is on the 10th dec so i have time to check with GP not sure that hospital is a safe place at the moment due to Covid
That’s good you will be seen so soon. I didn’t mean to alarm you about a long wait. Looks like it varies a lot.
Mine went very smoothly, and I hope yours does, too.
I am on now on apixiban and atorvastatin and bisoprolol I had a Mini heart attack in Dec I damaged my teeth smacked myself in mouth removing jammed hoover tool the week before had 1 tooth removed prior to H A was in hospital when next app due so cancelled app phoned to rebook they took me off books cos i cancelled app!then we had lockdown so no app but wed had emergency dentist app had tooth taken out I stopped anti coag previous night was worried but it agony everything went fine ive got 2 more at least to remove n dentist i used was brill not taking on at min n now lockdown so he we go again
Hospital should be perfectly safe. I went in for tests last MOnday with n o worries. Definitely ask yoru GP. MY dentist always asks if I'm taking any kind of blood thinners. If you already had problems on just aspirin low dose, I wonder if you've been tested for a clotting disorder like von Willebrand's disease which makes you bleed more and have heavy periods?
Hi Kit,
I asked my cardiologist about this. He advised me to wait until I stopped taking the anti-platelet because of the bleeding problem (though I will still be on aspirin). Fortunately my tooth has settled down and I can wait.
In your case a dental hospital seems like a good way to go.
Hi thank you for your reply I have trouble talking with cardiologist so will ask GP but not sure she will give me the advice i need it all scares me .
My dentist said he wasn’t worried about aspirin as had done loads of procedures with patients on aspirin but was going to do some research on Ticagrelor as I have a tooth that needs work and needs a crown. I have two appointments on one day for this procedure and await his thoughts. I might not take my Ticagrelor that morning. As a pharmacist I’m not too bothered but don’t follow my action as it’s not standard procedure.
Hi Kit. I'm a type 1 diabetic on a host of tablets and of course insulin.
I had 2 extractions last week! My GP and dentist told me to come off aspirin 2 days before the dental appointment. Everything went fine with no excessive bleeding and the gums seem to be healing well.
Good luck xxxx
Hi Kit. Please don't be worried about going into a hospital. The covid patients are kept well away from everyone else, and the wards are cleaner than ever. I have been volunteering at my local hospital since August last year - originally with Cardiac Rehab, but currently redeployed to home pharmacy runs. xx
