What next?

On Friday at 4pm after tests, bloods etc my operation got cancelled. I wasn't angry just disappointed. The NHS have limited resources and those who are there need to be well before they can leave. I would want that, if it was me in their position.

Ive rang the hospital today and they do not know when it is going to be rearranged for but I still need to shield. Therefore, I cant work which affects finances. I know, health is more important than money but its still a worry as its only me, I have bills to pay, plus will be off work for a while after the operation. Work are not the most empathetic, in fact were more interested in when I was going back if I wasn't having the operation.

Covid brings a whole new mix to the table. I live in Wales, my operation is in Liverpool and I'm staying with family. Im scared of outstaying my welcome as I'm back here after my operation. Yet concerned about my mental health if I go home. It just feels a bit overwhelming and out of my control at the moment. Am I the only one feeling this?

Oh I am so sorry that your surgery as been cancelled. You must feel awful one minute every thing is set and then it’s all change. Your mental health is very important and you really need to take care of that as well as your heart. You are with family so I am sure you won’t wear out your welcome, I have my fingers crossed that an opening comes up very quickly for you.

Best wishes Pauline.

Nope, I should think many people will be feeling the same.

My husband has a face to face appt with cardiologist on Friday 13th! 😱 The appt is to assess if he is well enough to have radiotherapy, I will be furious if it's cancelled. We've already been told that if he's able to have the radiotherapy then it will be dependent on the covid situation as he's vulnerable!

Oh I do hope his radiotherapy can go ahead. Fingers crossed for you

Sorry to hear this. It’s really hard to have an op cancelled last minute.

Hope that you get a rescheduled date soon

Oh do explain how you a re feeling to the family. I'm certain they will understand. Why don't you phone Citizens Advice and see if you could be entitled to any financial help?

Do it as soon as you can because DWP are not quick by any means. It took 9 months to get my disability allowance assessed and changed over to PIP. Eve the supposed emergency support during Covid doesn't happen right away. Why can't your workplace furlough you? They sound very unsympathetic.

They have after 2 weeks annual leave but being in Wales am still not sure if its 67% or 80%. Work just want to know when I'm coming back, not the most sympathetic at all

Talk to your Union if you have one

Don't have a union but have spoken to citizens advice and estate agents through whom I'm renting. Has really helped calm the nerves

Whilst it can be more than disappointing for this to have happened have you suggested to them you could take a short notice cancellation if one comes up?

Due to having to have covid test 72 hours before, I dont think they can do short notice but I am emailing surgeons secretary so fingers crossed

So sorry to hear this. Your family will I’m sure understand as everything in all our lives is so uncertain at the moment. Citizens Advice is a great shout re financial advice. We have struggled balancing health with finances but you can take payment holidays on a number of things not just the obvious like mortgage, esp if not going out (in the last lockdown we took ourcar off the road and saved insurance etc). I hope you can get support to see you through this and that the op happens soon 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽

My car wasn't off the road but I've only done 300 miles this year. My insurance company got in touch and have given a refund.

Hi Tammy. I'm late to this as only just spotted your post, but argh really sorry to hear this! It is as you say very understandable in the circumstances, but that doesn't make it any easier for you. So hope you're OK and managing, and hope you get an update/some clarity soon. Look after yourself. Nic x
