For several weeks now I've been really breathless. History of HA & 2 stents 2 years ago. Two other blockages in LAD deemed not bad enough to stent at 63%; blood flowing ok. Before the HA i was breathless like this and GP insisted it was my spinal problems making chest muscles tight. Now, without seeing me, they are insisting the same again. I have absolutely no energy and feel so weak. BP was 150/80 pulse 111 when I came in after just cutting some flowers down but quickly went down to 124/70 and pulse 90. Like many , don't want to go to hospital as covid is rampant here. My cleaner who came last week just messaged that her daughter's just been diagnosed with it but she herself is clear so far. Just don't know what to do or how to get GP to listen. I didn't use GTN because it's never done anything. I've never needed it.

I think if I had the same symptoms as you I’d phone 111 soon to either put your mind at rest or go to the hospital etc for further tests.

At least you’ll get answers, best of luck, let us know what you decide to do and how you get on !!

Hi, as Fluffybee says I think a trip to A&E is called for, your breathlessness and blood pressure needs looking at. I know that at this time going to hospital is scary more than usual. But they will make sure you are safe not near any Covid.

For peace of mind going and getting checked out is something you should really be looking at.

Let us know how you go. Will be thinking of you.

I know that's what i should do but first the hospital is almost an hour away> We only have an urgent care centre. A&E was absolutely packed last time I was taken and I was there for 9 hours before being seen and the safety re covid was diabolical. When I ring the GP I get someone different every time. The last one said it wouldn't be wise to go to A&E and he was certain I was just getting anxious and it was my spine again. He insisted the other two blockages couldn't possibly have got that bad in 2 years and unless they did another angiogram they wouldn't be able to tell if it was the other two blockages. Husband won't take me to A&E and if I go by ambulance they won't take my mobility scooter and I can no longer propel my wheelchair (torn shoulder) so I'm left unable to move anywhere or even get to the loo. I have to rely totally on my scooter to get about. If it was an electric wheelchair they would take that. I do suffer from anxiety but I really don't feel anxious at all; not even the past 2 months when I was waiting for test and results for possible cancer ( Clear thank goodness). I will definitely ring the GP tomorrow and try to speak to a different one and get seen in person. However our GPs no longer even do an ECG. If I get pain I won't hesitate to do 999.

Sounds like a plan, but if you feel anything overnight please phone 999 so pleased your results were clear, but your breathlessness and blood pressure needs looking at, let us know what your GP says tomorrow,

You need to go to A&E. I had to go to A&E some weeks before I entered hospital for my failed angioplasty. There was a totally separate entrance for suspected CovID patients, PPE in use and everybody's temperature was checked on entry. There were only five people in the waiting area, well socially distanced and wearing masks, and I was in the waiting area less than five minutes. You have to remember none of the staff want CovID as they have lost colleagues, and know it can be serious for young and old. So put on your coat (it's quite cold outside) and head to A&E.

Believe me it's not like that here.

I am puzzled as I would have thought people would have reported the hospital for not following the appropriate CovID guidelines!

Michael, I must say I wasn't impressed with my local A&E when I had to go in in early May (insect bite!). Haven't been near A&E since, so can't say if it's improved, but as a volunteer, I'm happy to wander round the rest of the hospital every week. The covid pod is hidden well away from both A&E and where most staff and patients ever venture.

When I went for an outpatient appointment at eh big hospital that was fine; just A&E was bad but a scan at our local hospital which doesn't have A&E had just one person at thedoor insisting you took one of their masks ( not your own) and did your hands then that was it. I didn't even see any sanitiser on eh wall of the x ray dept, just chairs blocked off or removed.

It was almost like that when I went to ENT at our big hospital but the CT Scan/xray dept locally had about 12 waiting in the waiting room and the toilets were a disgrace.

Not good, hope you have had a better day and feeling more yourself.

Not as bad thanks but washed out. I've lost a lot of weight, feeling very weak, shocking constipation for which I've had tests, legs wobbly. That's on top of neuropathy, DDD, fibromyalgia, Maigne syndrome, arthritis and urticaria and angioedema. It's probably some depression from the isolation and a complete lack of exercise for years and continued smoking. I almost stopped after my HA but during lockdown it's just got worse. Apart from my cleaner one hour a week I haven't seen a single person since Feb. Oh I Lie- I managed 2 hours with my son once in June.

Oh flipping heck you poor soul, you must feel fed up to the back teeth. Life sometimes is an absolute pig!

Like you apart from FaceTime 3/4 times a week with our family don’t see anyone oh I lie one of the sealed units in the French door in my kitchen failed and a man came last Friday to replace it😂 and when they deliver my groceries, one week Iceland next week Morrisons. It’s a quick hello how are you.

I feel once this pandemic is over there is going to be a lot of people who are going to need help mentally.

Very grateful for the forum being here, having someone like you to talk too.

Take good care Pauline

When I was speaking to the GP about my breathlessness I happened to say "I can't help wondering whether the isolation is making me worry more about things" and he immediately jumped in to tell me they have just set up a help organisation for people who are struggling with the isolation. They have had so many patients with problems, they've been very quick to set this up. Within 2 days I had a very bouncy young woman wake me up out of a deep sleep one morning asking to come and visit me to arrange some sort of counselling. She's coming today although how she can when we are under lockdown ie no one in the house, I don't know. Rather stupidly when you are isolating, she wanted to meet me in Asda's cafe. A bit daft when the whole reason you are struggling is because you haven't left the house. I will see what she's suggesting. I suspect if you ask, most GPs will be doing this.

You have to laugh meet in Asda cafe 😩 As you say the reason we are struggling is being behind closed doors.

Let me know how you get on, will make inquiries up here though haven’t heard of anything, they normally send out a text message when anything new is being rolled out.

Thanks for the heads up Pauline

Ours sent no message. I think they don't want it to be overwhelemed

Bit of a waste of time. Her job as an outreach worker is to persuade people to go out with her in person. Well, I'm housebound. I Use a mobility scooter but because of a badly damaged shoulder, I need someone to get it out of the car for me and she's not allowed. Her only suggestion was to accompany me on a walk from home or to meet at Sainsburys cafe. OK I suppose for someone who just wants company on a walk- if you can walk but not my cup of tea at all. I just can't tell when I'd even be pain free enough to get out of the house.Last night I got 3 hours sleep and am still curled up with a hot water bottle .

That’s not what I imagined at all. So sorry you are still not feeling well. John had a fall 10 days ago, and last night he slept in the bed he’s been sleeping in his recliner chair he pulled some muscles in his side so couldn’t get comfortable in bed. So I have been up and down to him! Last night was the best nights sleep in over a week. So my heart goes out to you not getting decent sleep. It makes the next day so hard.

Thinking of you Pauline

Thanks. When I'm really bad my go to for sleep is my car seat. I'm used to only getting about 3 hours. If I have to get up to the loo , that's it for the rest of the night. I just can't get the pain under control. Glad you got some sleep.

They may have been following guidelines. I just didn't see it.

Qualipop profile image

On the surface they were but people were sitting waiting far too close together. I didn't see any beds or chairs being disinfected and I was moved to three different departments; two of which didn't demand hand sanitising. Oh the stuff was there but there was no one reminding people. In 9 hours I never saw a cleaner .

I really do urge you to go to A and E like others have done. The truth is that the hospital have access to broader tests than the GP and given your history you need to be checked out. You can try your GP agaln and be strong and clear about your symptoms but ultimately it would seem you do need further investigation which can really only be done in hospital. Take courage and weigh the balance of not attending against your fear of Covid. I know hospital can be scary and is difficult for you but better to be thoroughly checked out.🙂
