Prescription charge exemption

Reading the list of conditions that get you an exemption .... having a heart problem, a replacement valve and being on Warfarin for life isn't one of them. Seems a bit daft to me?

I am retired but before was exempt due to Thyroid problem .

Have you looked at other options?

There are many schemes to help. As mentioned low income people can get it free or alternatively you can get a pre-payment certificate, which makes it significantly cheaper. They even do a monthly direct debit now, which I think is about £10, and all your prescriptions are then covered.

I have a PPC. The point I am making is - why does diabetes get you a free pass but heart failure and valve replacement not. They seem of equal seriousness and both require life long medication? By what yard stick has the criteria been measured?

I agree, their list doesn’t make sense. I’m on a cocktail of drugs, including warfarin, due to a mechanical valve, and an antibiotic for life due to a splenectomy. I had a PPC cos it worked out cheaper but am now over 60 so get it free. I think they need to look at their list of exemptions again and update it. If you’re on something for life, you should be exempt for those drugs.

Technically, as an English tax payer, I am already paying for those prescriptions .....

I had a Doctor’s appointment today and was diagnosed with low blood pressure.

The Doctor wrote me a prescription for two sets of Ikea self-assembly wardrobes.
