Waiting room door well & truly open: Aortic Valve and Aneurysm surgery in 1.5 days!

Thank you all for the replies and PM's

Wise words and sound advice in them all - and I concluded that 'Swingyourpants' was correct in pointing out that there is a strong temptation to over-analyse this stuff. So I decided that I'm 'good to go' and immersed myself in work until 5:30 today.

Yesterday I drove myself to the hospital (25 mins) for the COVID swab - one down your nose (makes your eyes water) and one in throat - and found myself feeling quite tearful at one point. I hadn't had any particularly upsetting thoughts about the operation or anything else (and M25 was pretty quite so it wasn't the other drivers) so I'd suggest not self-driving to your pre-op checks.

There was no queue for the drive through and no-one else arrived whilst I was being 'done' so no time to dwell.

I'm no wondering if i dreamed being told my op is scheduled for 2:00pm on Saturday as the admission letter only states checkin on Friday, op on saturday - I don't fancy having to hang around all morning but if it is, it is. I might pass the time by posting on here!

My biggest fear is that a transplant patient or other emergency will arrive just as I'm about to go in and I get postponed - that would, I feel, be very hard to take.

"laters" as young people used to say..

Steve

I am on week 13 after having my bicuspid valve replaced and the aneurysm dealt with. Honestly my quality of life is so very different and, according to my husband, I have finally found my sense of humour again. It went awol for the last seven months..... The first six weeks are when you really have to take care and rest a lot. Then it is onwards and upwards. Day by day you get better and more active. sometimes it is three days forward and one rest day but you will get there in the end. Good luck; take plenty to read.

Good luck Steve. I will be treading the same path in about 5 months. Far enough away not to take up too much of my thoughts but I am sure when I can count down in weeks I will give it a bit of thought lol. Good luck Mate

Onwards and upwards Steve.

Think Positive. You're gonna be just fine,I'm Positive. 👍

I need an Aortic valve and a. Mitral valve replacement, but no Surgeon will do it for me ,because I have numerous other health problems.

You're bound to be nervous about having it done. You wouldn't be Human otherwise .But just think of the difference it'll be for you in a few months time.🏋️‍♂️🚴‍♂️🤾‍♂️ ..Wishing you all the best Steve...Love Glo.xx

Hey Steve. I was at your exact point - AVR and aneurysm repair - myself (obviously without the Covid issue) 18 months ago. So just to wish you best of luck to you. Sure you're in good hands and you'll be on the road to recovery. I certainly haven't looked back! Will be thinking of and rooting for you tomorrow.

Good luck
