I was you ten weeks ago - I spent the night writing to my husband and whispering with the night healthcare assistant when she did her rounds of the beds. As she said to me, she had seen hundreds go in for such operations and although I would not believe her, everyone came out saying it was not as bad as they thought it would be. Now I am one of those people who say that but I know how hard it is to believe it when you are waiting. Honestly it is copeable with - your imagination runs riot but it is surprisingly okay. Unpleasant at times and uncomfortable but not nearly as bad as your mind suggests it will be. If you are in pain they quickly respond and it really isn;t that bad. By the way, when you have to shower with Hibi scrub in the morning it's okay but your hair turns to straw......

You are quite right. I hated the thought of hospitals and having a triple bypass was horrendous. Quite honestly it wasn’t nearly as bad as people think . I was never scared because the staff were amazing and I really thought the very worst. I think recovery was not so good as the mood changes were not what I was expecting . However like many people I am thankful to all those brilliant people who enabled me to be here and writing this today

Sending you best wishes, mine was nearly 4 years ago, and spent some of the night before looking out on the river Clyde and the stars in the night sky from my hospital room.

It really isn’t as bad as our imagination makes it. You will be on the mended heart road before you know it.

Take care follow the exercises they give you and baby steps when you get home.

I was very lucky I was put in what they called the penthouse big windows on 2 sides, I was in the Golden Jubilee built for the Saudis and they never took it over so the NHS moved in and is now the Heart and Lung Hospital for the West of Scotland. Watching the Clyde as well as the planes taking off and landing at Glasgow airport.

Reading Michaels post reminded me of my Hibiscrub shower, I have white hair but it was a vivid shade of pink!

I just watched some TV and texted a few people. My dinner went AWOL but a nurse went and brought me two sandwiches - she refused to accept payment. Had one with a cup of tea and the second with water yet before midnight. Slept like a log from midnight to 6:00am when I was woken to take a subset of my medication. I had to.shower with Hibiscrub contain the evening in the morning. You will wake in ICU before you know it. And then it's the road back to fitness.

And don't forget to to ask for pain relief of you need it!

I remember feeling so scared the night before but then when I woke I had a text from one of my friends... She said 'c'mon you can do this you are a tough old bird' I thought yes yes I can do this I got in that shower and from that text I just felt so so strong...told all my other contacts I wanted no slushy texts that morning as I wanted to keep strong and not get teary.... Worked for me.... Cmon you can do this.. You are a tough old bird!!

Your post made me smile something similar note from my granddaughter who was 13 at the time saying you are the strongest woman I know and you will come through this made me straighten my shoulders head up and go for it!

I 'graduated' in 2018. As many have said, the reality is less scary and painful than the picture your imagination paints. Immediate post op feels like a car crash but recovery is remarkably rapid and relatively painless.

You will be surrounded by highly skilled professionals, committed to your health and comfort.
