Since been on medication for my heart I seem to get a fair amount of cramp in my legs and feet. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi, i have always had calf cramps but for the last 3 years when my heart skips or flutters i get a cramp in my thigh or arm just after.

I also had them worse when i was on calcium bloq tablets

Thanks

Speak to your NP about this - it may just be run of the ill side effects of medication, or it may be that you need to amend your medication slightly.

Nothing lost in the conversation, but plenty learned in the answer

Hi When I 1st started on my Heart meds I started to experience cramps in my shins during the early hours of the night. It was suspected that the Statin was the cause but that it was a necessary med due to its main medical benefit (in my circumstances) so there was strong push back not to change the drug or dosage. I started to take the dose a lot later in the evening than I had been and the issue seemed to abate. Whether that was the fix or my body acclimatised to the drug over time i cant say.

Thanks for your help. I will talk to my GP.

Prior to my bypass 2 years ago I used to get terrible cramps in my calfs.I have always trained hard, still do.Since my op I haven't had any cramps.Don't know why.Not that I'm recommending you have a bypass, but I think you should tell your GP asap.

Possibly due to medication, which can possibly be adjusted. I have not looked at the research literature, but my accumulated experience points at two suspects: Magnesium and Potassium. Ask your doctor what your blood levels are. Do check with your doctor before taking supplements.

Since I started taking Magnesium Citrate (for my heart) I have virtually eliminated cramps. Magnesium has the advantage it can be taken through an oil rub on the skin. For Potassium, it is simply a matter of not neglecting fruit. The peaches season is starting soon.

The other way round is that if I eat some salty chips in the evening, I can guarantee cramps.

Needed to go back onto calcium channel blockers - almost immediately the cramp in calf started. You might try magnesium oil or magnesium glycynate ( read the labels on the tablet supplements very carefully magnesium citrate not particularly well absorbed and magnesium oxide mainly flushes straight out)
