Quad bypass saved my life

Just joined . I am a quad bypass 3 years ago in January and feel great. Any good ides to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forum, you are obviously doing well as you say you feel great and that’s lovely to hear. I had aortic valve replaced and bypass 3 1/2 years ago so not quite the same as you, but like you have a lot to thank the NHS for, its given me a second chance. Lots of us here try to follow a Mediterranean diet, recommend by BHF. Keeping as active as possible, did you do cardio rehab? If you did you will no doubt have been told over and over again use it or lose it!

The other thing is keep taking your meds and watch your blood pressure.

There will be others along with maybe other things to add, but we are all travelling on this mended heart road.

Hi Pauline . Thanks for the welcome and tips for a healthy living. Yes I did the cardio rehab and in fairness our local teams attached to our doctors try their best to keep on the ball but they have so much work on. My meds are strictly adhered to and monitored by the surgery.Blood pressure is fantastic.

Get your waist to half your height and try not to go onto too many activity holidays (covid permitting). I walk and I walk, and then go on holiday and walk some more. The more energy I burn the more I can eat. It's a vital way of living.

Thanks for the tips. I have been a bit restricted for the last couple of months. I was being a bit stupid and fell from a ladder and broke my leg. After the operation my quality of life improved so much that I started to believe I was Superman again Never had many brains beforehand but it has taught me a lesson. Slowly started walking again.

True story for you . One of my colleagues decided fix his roof. He slipped and fell onto his lawn in a crumpled heap. His wife was inside marking a pile of scripts. Nobody noticed.

He had his phone with him and after much painful effort he managed to get hold of it and call his wife.

Unfortunately he had a reputation for being a very accomplished joker.

His wife was not pleased. "I am very busy " she said and put the phone down.

After a few more minutes he gathered enough strength to ring again. "Stop messing about" she said "You know I am busy".

More time passed. Eventually he mustered enough strength to call again.

"Right " she said, "II am coming out . If your are messing about I will not be happy".

Out she came, screamed, ambulance called, etc. His recovery took a long time.

Wow I hope he is a lot better now. Similar story . I have been involved with many different things over the years making money as honestly as you can. I was involved in property renovation. I knew it all. One windy night, one of the covers on a roof on our house was blown loose. Rain wind tempest at 4.00 in the morning. Clown me decides to put a ladder up and secure the covering. The ladder was as slippery as hell. The rest is history 4 months later almost walking again with my zimmer frame. Lesson learnt, you don't bounce on concrete.
