Recent A&E visit with heart palpitations

Monday of last week called 999 after a weekend of feeling unwell with pounding heart beat of up to 150 beats. Was told in A&E that it was atrial fibrillation and to increase bisoprolol and I would be called back later. Letter receive today telling me to see my GP if it reoccurs as I have a history of heart attack and CABG x4, I know everyone is busy with COVID, but can this be good advice?

Many people with AF (atrial fibrillation) are treated by their GPs. Increasing your dose of Bisoprolol seems appropriate. Your GP can always refer you back to cardiology if the right drug combination cannot be found or if they think a more invasive treatment is needed.

Are you also avoiding potential triggers like caffeine, alcohol, chocolate and spicy food?

Thanks for your reply about only thing I haven't given up is oxygen ;) Normally do a five mile walk everyday but at the moment struggling with the hills really hope the GP's fix will get me back on track.

Cheers I was just checking an Indian menu, before reading this. That's Karma, no Korma for me then.😭

I prefer a Chicken Tarka Masala. It’s like a Tikka Masala - only a little otter!

I am going back to 2009 when I started having Palpitations, I was referred to a Cardiologist at the General Hospital, who did an ECG, but nothing showed up, however he continued to see me on a monthly basis and again had an ECG done and again nothing showed up, he was going to discharge me, it was my insistence, that I felt something was wrong, despite nothing showing up on the ECG's, he continued to see me for 4 years, putting me on Beta Blockers, it was the same scenario every time, nothing showing up on the ECG, however, he decided to refer me to Cardiac Thoracic, these people are Specialists on Specialist, I saw a Professor, who sent me for an ECG and again nothing had shown up, so he decided to admit me and put my heart under duress in theatre conditions, so I was admitted, went down to the theatre, I was given an injection to deaden the groin area a tube was inserted to go to my heart, doctors' were with me all the time and explaining what they were doing, explaining what / how I would feel, however, the Professor came over to me and said I had a very interesting heart and they had found 5 electrical faults and that they could repair 4 of them, but the 5th was too dangerous to repair, it was a heart ablation I had and from that day have never looked back.

Glad that it was positive if lengthy process. Spoke to my GP (phone) he was hesitant to adjust meds in case it lowered pulse too much, at moment anywhere from mid forties to high nineties. Requested I take my blood pressure a few times a day for next few days and email him results on Monday and then he will reassess. Ideally he said he would prefer to refer me to cardio to determine what type of AF it is
