Hi all . Hope you’re all keeping well. Just a quick question I had a stent 4 weeks ago and currently on 75mg aspirin once a day and 90mg Ticegalor twice a day.i have so many bruises all over every day ,currently I’ve 38. I know it’s probably the aspirin but do others have the same problem . imagine suffering like this for another 11 months .

Hi. It’s the combination of aspirin + Ticagrelor. Together they’re what’s called a dual anti platelet therapy. Think of blood clotting as a ball with lots of key holes and keys floating around your blood. The aspirin reduces the number of keys and the Ticagrelor blocks the key holes. So that stops your blood from clotting and increases bleeding (bruising). And watch out if you shave. You’ll just have to be careful until you drop the Ticagrelor. That’s usually after 12 months but can be after 6 months. Good luck. It will be over before you know it.

I am covered in bruises also, but I take Clopidogrel 75mg Would this have the same results as Ticagrelor?
Yes. It’s a similar drug. When I had my heart attack + stent over three years ago Ticagrelor (which is more potent) was given to heart attack patients and Clopidogrel given to angina + stent patients. Ticagrelor is generally stopped after 12 months whereas Clopidogrel can be continued - especially if Aspirin isn’t tolerated.
Thank you for your reply I wondered if they would take me of Clopidogrel after 12 months, seems I am stuck with it for a while yet.

mate i would check your only supposed to be on it for 12 months it can cause liver damage, they left me on it for 16month and never told me i started to have issues and they stopped it immediately, so please check.

I have had 3 stents, but also have hardening of the carotid arteries. Because I am asymptomatic and the risks of an operation outweigh the possible benefits, the specialists want to treat me with medication as long as they can, so I am on Clopidogrel for life. Bruising hasn't been too bad, but at my recent annual cardiac check-up, my consultant was surprised that the vascular department had told me I could stop taking aspirin and put me back on that, again for life. Can't believe the difference such a small dosage is making to bruising! Most of the time, I don't even know how I acquired them, but I'm currently sporting a big black one on my jaw, where I was trying to fold a large piece of cardboard into a bin bag, and it flipped back and hit me on the chin. Also, one on my knee, because I knelt on the floor for 5 minutes!

I'm single-handedly clearing 30+ years of clutter out of my flat prior to putting it on the market when this is all over, so I'm got bruises popping up all over my arms and legs where I'm manhandling stuff - you don't need to be clumsy to get bruises when you're on blood thinners! But the drugs are keeping us healthy and that's the main thing. Stay well!

Welcome to the wonderful world of bruising, where you wake up every morning and stand in the bathroom and rack your brain wondering where the latest collection of bruises came from!
It's mainly due to the Ticegalor that is the guilty party here, the good news is that you'll stop taking it after 12 months, and I was covered in bruises at the start but tended to get less bruised after a while, don't know whether that was my body getting used to the meds, or me becoming especially careful, but it does improve.

Hi - I had a stent fitted in September 2019. It does seem to be improving now but I was quite surprised at the bruising at first. It still happens but not on the scale it was. I will still wake up an a new one will appear in the most random of places but in terms of if I bump into something it’s definitely improved.
Hi there - I stopped my Ticegalor after 12 months in Feb following my HA and stents and the bruising stopped overnight. I had some big bruises in the 12 months which often looked alot worse than the felt. the 12 months will be up before you know it.
Yes it’s awful but I suppose it’s a small price to pay when you think about it. I have some beauties and have no idea how I got them. Good luck with your recovery

I went rock climbing back in January. I came back with bruises on bruises and it took at least a month to disappear. It was not only colourful but actually hurt more for longer I think. My year on clopidogeral ends in three weeks 🙏🏻

Hi there, funny you should say this. I had 3 stents in December but recently started taking ticagrelor and noticed I'm covered in bruises. It is a side effect from what I've read.
Hi, just to flip this thread, I had 2 stents 8 weeks ago tomorrow, Aspirin, Ticagrelor + 7 others. I was warned about the possible bruising, as yet not had one, & I'm not one to sit around

My pharmacist suggested arnica cream to help clear them quickly. They’re right about shaving too. Veet or similar is much safer as you don’t clot for ages initially! Welcome to the club Mx

Hi , The Ticagrelor will do that and some cardiologists only prescribe them for 6 months. I got 4 stents in November and I’ve to stop them in may . Good luck

yes i did too I was on clopidogirel after mine only had to brush past something and I would bruise, so it seems to be pretty normal, it did go once I stopped the clopidogirel, just take 75 mg asprin now and no bruising, so try not to worry you'll be fine.

Yep, all about Ticagrelor. Being naturally clumsy any way I looked like a battered wife for 12 mths! Wore trousers and long sleeved shirts through the summer. Pleased to say I got through it and am now out the other side.
Hi there! It’s the blood thinners and it could be both. My husband has 5 stents and is on both Asprin once a day and Ticagrelor 2x a day. He is easily bruised but it’s due to the blood thinners. As well has my grandmother and my family who has heart conditions.
My husband 35 years old. He is on it for life. He beat the record in the Philippines for 35 year old male and 5 stents. We are from the Mariana Islands.
Hi , I am on 10mg prasugrel along with 75mg aspirin, 5mg ramipril, 20mg atorvastatin, 2.5mg bisoprolol.
I have bruises on my ribs , and the rest of my body from I dont know where!
I have another 9 months on prasugrel to go !
Yes lots of bruising initially but put up with it to keep stent clear even on bridge of nose and corner of eyes but does get better 😊👍

My 38 year old husband also had stents last year. Loads of bruising and nose bleeds too at first with the tricagrelor. It's totally stopped since he's come off it, but actually it settled down a lot throughout the year and by the end of the year the nosebleeds had completely disappeared and the bruising wasn't much of a problem.
So keep going, it does get better 🙂
Hi Beachbabe2020, I had a heart attack in September and am on 12 months of Tricagelor and Aspirin like you. Yes, sadly I have horrible bruising like you too. I also get sudden burst blood vessels every now and then - one on my eyelid was so spectacular that it sent me running off to the GP. He said it was probably caused by coughing. As a result, I switched from Ramipril (which gave me a persistent cough) to Candestarten. I’m having a review of my meds in May, and as always, will ask if I can come off any of the cocktail of drugs. They do seem heavy duty, but I guess they’re important in preventing another heart attack, so persevere if possible!
Are you on a blood thinner? If you are it's the blood thinner that is causing the bruising.

I know exactly how you are feeling about the bruises. They just appear out of nowhere. Some also very painful, my calf's had some of the best and most colourful.
I stopped Ticagrelor about 2 weeks ago (12 months) and thankfully the unexplained bruises has now stopped.
Being on lockdown it’s my new hobby daily counting the bruises .ha .
But seriously they look so ugly .
Have the same problem but they are made worse when Maggie wants to play, her claws are like little weapons.
I’m on 75 aspirin having had stroke and have hole in heart. I refused anything else due to bruising and burst eye vessels i researched I’m on nattikinase ( from Japan I’ve chosen to take the food ( comes in tablet firm from states Europe hasn’t allowed it in yet ) I get food vis amazon from Germany check out the medical research papers on it drug companies won’t like it and there’s no side effects) did I say there are no side effects?!!!!!
And I take pycnogenol. Too, WITH NO SIDE EFFECTS
Also take aspirin at night if you have blood clot challenges apparently my medical phd scientist friend sensibly said blood is slower at night

Yes Aspirin and other blood thinning meds will make any knocks to your body show bruising, the harder the knock to bigger the bruise, mostly to the hands wrists and arms,
What I do find is that damn bedroom door handle when you go to the bathroom always gets my wrist, best wrap something around the handle before going to bed, also, if you get up during the night sit on the side of the bed for at least a minute, two and a half mins is the recommended before standing, otherwise like me before I knew this you can collapse and injure yourself.
Slow down whatever you do so avoiding knocking yourself.
Hi, I had a stent fitted last December and also bruised easily, massive bruises and small ones. I assumed it was due to the Atorvastatin. It seems to have stopped now, unless I am just being more careful 😊
