Afternoon Tea Party - 29th March

After the success of last week's Mothers' Day Tea we are another tea party at 3:00pm today.

Sandwiches, scones and cakes. Please post any requests here.

I received a delivery from Betty’s yesterday so I’ll bring the Victoria Sponge and fat rascals we were treating ourselves. Sharing them means we won’t get the sugar rush we get yesterday from the fondant fancies 😂

Is that in York? When I was a lad there was a Betty's men's, women's and children's wear shop in St Albans. A vast shop with low prices but of dubious quality. Been gone for decades - maybe the Primark of the era!

I have been to Betty's but never got to a table - feasted my eyes on the cakes as we stood in the queue- husband said only morons would wait this long for a cup of tea and an overrated cake and left. So my order is the complete cake stand and a gallon pot of Yorkshire tea......

There are 2 Betty’s in York, one in the centre of Harrogate, 2 at Harlow Carr Harrogate, one in Ilkley, and one in Northallerton. In the 60s there was one in the centre of Leeds where my mum used to take me and my sister to choose a bun for our birthday. We were poor but my mum believed in quality as a treat. Her name was Betty so whenever I go to Betty’s it’s to remember my mum.

I'll be along shortly. I've got some vodka but failed to secure any fresh orange juice yesterday, so if someone's got some that would be much appreciated. The Victoria Sponge sounds lovely.

Oh and Michael - you can unlock the toilet rolls, I managed to get some yesterday so won't be casting envious eyes over the stock of toilet rolls 🧻👀

My youngest aged 19 has just run 2 miles to see his girlfriend. They held their conversation the regulation 2m apart.

He then ran 2 miles back.

The tea rooms will close at 6:00 but the Bar and Cafe will be open! There still plenty left and doggie bags are available. By the power of virtuality I am popping to the Bar and Cafe to get things ready!
