The person to ask is the person who prescribed the extra 1.5mg - the cardiologist or the cardiac nurse if you have one. If you can't get through to them you still have time to ring the GP surgery - at this writing it is twenty minutes to five pm so the surgery should still be open and taking telephone calls.

Otherwise, a telephone call to 111 might be helpful.

Please update - 'flutters' are SO unpleasant, especially on a late Friday afternoon!

Im on 2.5mg bisoprolol too and have been September 2019. Ive been getting the same as you too but my dose hasnt increased. The flutters, lightheadedness and fast heartrate feels like your about to pass out but it goes in a few minutes. I have a cardiology appt 25th march and will be asking them. The bisoprolol seems to lower my heart rate but im still having palpitations. Thats why i had bisoprolol in the first place as i was pregnant in September where they found i have sinus tachycardia. Gave birth october and still the same. Ive put on alot of weight in pregnancy so im now at my biggest ive ever been so im wondering if that has something to do with my case. However, will ne watching your thread with great interest. I hope you get it sorted. Its very frightening i know. Feels like you need 999 on standby lol

Interesting! I was started on 2.5 mg’s of Bisoprolol by my Cardiologist as I had a continuous fast heart rate and palpitations. He then asked me to increase it to 5mg’s a day. I was fine on the 2.5 but once I increased the dose I could feel my heart jumping all over the place. It was very uncomfortable. It was as though my heart was resisted the need to slow down, like a car engine miss firing. It has since stopped but hate feeling so tired and slow on the higher dose.

I've been taking Bisoprolol for over 1 year, also Enalapril. Was started on Bisoprolol because of palpatations. I've lost 2 stone in weight recently, and have been feeling heart flutters constantly for 3 weeks now. I'm on 10mg Bisoprolol. Do you think this is too high a dose?

Hello Yasmass.

I realise that everyone is different but my experience with Bisoprolol was similar. Had numerous side effects. Cardiologist took me off of them and I the side effects improved considerably.

Seems that Bisoprolol in particular is problematic for many people.

I find as soon as the dose has increased (such as this week) there can be some problems. The idea is that the side-effects disappear and you are left with overall better health. That’s the point in taking them! They are not there just because “we are giving you some tablets“ the higher doses have the best outcomes for example in heart Failure. I do understand however everyone’s condition is different and everyone’s body is different. Personally I will try to stick out the higher dose and take it easy for as long as I could before coming off them/ Reducing the dose. By the way does anybody know what the alternative medicine is if you do not take bisoprelol -Surely there must be one with less side-effects??

Hi hf. I was on 5mg Bisoprolol and was getting other side effects (peripheral neuropathy - aka numb/hyper-sensitive feet!), and my cardiologist switched me to 12.5 mg Carvedilol. Obviously, we all have different reactions to different drugs - these new ones make me feel really tired... but my feet aren't as bad!

My GP took me off Bisoprolol (prescribed by Cardiologist) following CABG because i had asthma medication and she had seen reactions before.

I was needing some help as i am fairly tachycardic, so she put me on Diltiazem instead which isn't as strong but keeps my heart rate lower.

Whereas the bisoprolol had been keeping my rate down below 70 and more , this BP medicine seems to keep it down to 75-80 at tickover which i think is fine.

I wasn't on the beta blocker long but was aware of various possible s'effects but then again , it is difficult to distinguish which of the myriad of tablets is responsible + of course the risk-benefit of these meds ie we need them !!

gl all

remember we are all different, and are often prescribed meds for differing reasons; so do speak to your GPs and specialists.
