Happy Christmas - 6th January

Today is Christmas Day on the island of Foula in the Shetlands. Unlike the rest of the UK they stayed on the Julian calendar when everywhere else changed to the Gregorian one in 1752.

With yesterday's celebrations with HectorsDad and another turkey dinner today I will have to watch the scales! 😁

For us it's Epiphany - the day the Three Magi (aka Three Kings or Three Wise Men) arrived to see the Christ Child. When my children were home I used to make it a special end to the Christmas Season with church service attendance, three religious gifts each, and a nice meal. The next day they knew the decorations would be down when they got in from school.

Now it's 'just us' (husband and me), I still make a bit of an occasion of it. It used to drive my 'Wee Free' husband up a tree but he's got used to it now and always wants to know what's on for '3Wise Guys Day lunch'!

We have one at Easter but more like a traditional Sunday roast. No piggies, stuffing or sprouts! 😁

I was brought upon a large farm. The animals were cattle, pigs, turkeys and chicken. Sheep were an absolute no-no to cattle men. I also consider it rather fatty so never eat it.

In the Gwaun valley in Pembrokeshire they still celebrate New Year's day according to the Julian calendar on January 13th:

So belated Happy Christmas for today. With three Christmases in a fortnight I am all Christmased out! And we have a other New Year next week! 😀
