MY wine with warfarin

I like my nightly wine and would try and reduce but this affects my INR and back on Heparin injections Still working physically way past retirement which does not help.

Am fortunate to have a local surgery with two super nurses who monitor my INR and are very helpful to accommodate my appointments around my work times

Since my operation fifteen years ago my INR has rarely been stable but this seems to be the case for many.

Hi Peter. I am on long term warfarin ( For life) due to multiple DVTs. I like a small glass of red wine and so I have a small shot glass (only) with my evening meal. This has been factored into my regular diet and I do not go over this ( The anticoag nurses know if I have more as my INR spikes!). Have a word with your GP / clinic and ask for advice. Here's wishing you a Happy New Year and a nice stable INR.

PS I grow my own veg and one year I grew ,and ate, lots of lovely red lettuce. The effect on my INR was dire! Haven't eaten it since! Now i stick to my normal diet amounts of everything and eventually my INR stabilised. Any deviation from this and my INR changes depending on what I have eaten more of!

Thanks for you reply perhaps i need to be more discipline with my wine glass size

Interesting post I did not know what INR was but having Genned up I am very slightly concerned. Is this just monitored because you are on Warfarin? I presume that other drugs such as Clopidogrel and/or Asprin do not need to have levels measured regularly or do they? Can't you swap onto a more modern drug?

I've been on Warfarin the past 18 months and I like to have a drink every now and again but I've never noticed it affect my INR levels. I didn't even realise it was such a risk, I was just told to avoid cranberries and not eat too much leafy green veg.
