Ramparil the devil you know

After months of cough my consultant changed me from ramparil to candesartan after 5 days I was feeling terrible and struggling to get breath. Ended up in hospital and swoped to losartan. Still feeling rotten and am thinking I might be better going back to ramipril as I felt great except for the cough. Anyone else feeling like this.

Hi I found out I had heart failure in April and was put on ramipril I have not had any side effects do you have a heart nurse or heart doctor I have both you could try and ring the heart doctor you seen in hospital and explain to them because all your medications might need looking at I say this because I think ramipril must be the main heart tablet good luck

Thanks for the reply I am seeing the doctor early January and intend to ask why not back to ramipril as a cough is nothing to what's happening now. Heart nurse we don't have them

I was put on losartan when I had an episode of atrial flutter in August, which then morphed into persistent afib. I didn't realise that some of how dreadful I felt was due to the losartan until after I was cardioverted a month later. I had severe nausea, so much that I couldnt eat, at one point even water brought it on, and also dreadful headaches. I'm now on ramipril and much better. There are other drugs in the same family as ramipril. My husband takes perindopril, and has no bad effects. He had a cough when on ramipril. Might be worth seeing your gp to ask?

Hi did you ever see a doctor at the hospital if you did they might have 1 ramipril what can I say we cant live with it and cant live without it what you need to do is say to your doctor that you are prepared to go back on ramipril because what you suffer on that is not half as bad as what you are suffering now remember he sits there and listens and like them all says I understand but they don't but ask him can he give you something for the caugh you get that way your killing 2 birds with 1 stone I won't say 3 because you might won't to kill your doctor lol

I developed absolutely dreadful ventriculat fibrillation after being put on Candesartan. Although I was certain what caused it, it took months to get a holter monitor to prove it and even longer to persuade my GP that was the cause. After stopping teh tablets it was a good 3 months before the fibrillation stopped. I now take NO BP tablets and it's a stable 110/68 unless I go to the doctor's when it shoots up to 140/80. I just take a diuretic.

One of the side effects of my cocktail of heart drugs is numb and/or(!) hyper-sensitive feet. I convinced myself that it was the Ramipril, so my cardiologist agreed to change it to Candesartan. That may have improved them very very slightly, but they're still bad, so I'm now convinced it's the Bisoprolol, which my cardiologist refuses to change. Can't win.

I was taken off of it after a year by my GP - he decided it was needed anymore, along with my Ticagrelor. Honestly, it was the best news I'd had in a while, as the annoying, dry cough cleared after about a couple of weeks. And I'm down to 4 pills instead of 6, which is always a bonus!

I have been on a similar drug, cilazapril, for the past 6 or so years. Had no problems witth it. We can no longer get that drug here, ao my doctor changed it to losartan. I haven't used it yet since I take potassium tablets and losartan is supposed to increase potaassium. Il have to check with thedoc to find out if it is OK.
