Sudden onset of breathlessness

H

I had a very unexpected heart attack back in March and continue to make steady progress. I'm 68 and have cut my working week down to three days (in a special needs school which I love). I get regular bouts of fatigue but have learnt to live with that and adjust my lifestyle accordingly. My issue is, a week ago I started to get very breathless, which hasn't occured before. It got to the stage where I had to take my third day off to go to the doctor. At this time I was also quite shaky. An ECG was done which was clear so a back up x-ray the following day (results end of this week). I'm a very pragmatic person but this is beginning to give me some cause for concern as it doesn't seem to be getting any better. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

I’d go straight to my cardiologist and/or go to A&E. take it very easy.

Thank you Clerkenweller. That did cross my mind but after the ECG I thought I wouldn't need to. Going to go to see the Rehab nurse later. Appreciate your reply.

The stress that goes with working with SEN children should not be underestimated. I agree with Clerkenweller.

I firmly believe resting ECGs are of limited value as mine was fine prior to a quadruple bypass. When you see the rehab nurse it might be worth discussing an exercise ECG as she may be able to fast track you. Good luck.

Thank you. I have to admit I thought once the ECG was clear, despite sending me for an x-ray the doctors response of ' if you're not better in a week come back' didn't reassure me. I have more faith in the nurse so will see what she says later. Feeling rather fragile at the moment which is not like me as normally very positive. Appreciate your comments.

Try asking for an echocardiogram th why would see anything

Had one and it was clear which makes it all the more frustrating (but in a good way I suppose)

Hello Yasyass, apologies for my ignorance. I thought an ECG was an echocardiogram but realise now it's not. Thank you. Now have one booked for 19th December.
