Report in the BMJ - Vegans and vegetarians get less heart disease but more strokes

My guess is that it's the vegetarians that have more strokes because they consume artery blocking dairy produce.

Cardiovascular disease

Oh my goodness, I'm convinced to give up my vegan ways, burger or ribs for me tomorrow, perhaps both! I even heard I was more likely to develop dementia on a vegan diet recently on this site. Maybe some pork chops with a milkskhake chaser for good measure tomorrow as well. Then I'll be all better. Lol

Yawn. :)

After further consideration, I've concluded that the numerous supplements I take very likely do not leave me deficient of of any essential vitamins and minerals, although perhaps there is evidence to the contrary with my apparent limited mental capacity. My doctor thinks that my diet alone is sufficient to provide mye body with the required nutrition for good health with only a couple of exceptions, and that taking the numerous supplements I take is just fine and dandy, however he also tells me the primary impact most of them are having is only the lessening of my bank account, and the only symptom occurring as a result of all this supplementation is very expense urine. But I must admit, a burger or some ribs sound delightful, although in reality I am not the least bit tempted. I'm committed to seeing how this vegan thing plays out and am in it for the Long haul, in spite of some of the wonderful and delicious food that I deny myself.

Hi. I believe the increase in risk may be because of a lack of Vitamin B12 and D in plant based diets.

Not that easy, veggies are often deficient in some minerals and vitamins. Lots more money needed for further research?

The two biggies are Vitamins B12 and D. Most vegans know that they have to supplement B12 and all Brits should supplement Vit D in winter.

I appreciate that Gunsmoke. I hope you cooked it up bloody red, and that there were sufficient succulent juices from the portion of slain beast that was upon your plate that it took at least a slice or two of toasted bread to mop them up so that every last drop could be enjoyed. I believe I shall live vicariously through you when I have the itch for a nice cut of beef.
