Just wanted to put this out there amongst you hearties and ask you what you feel about it?I popped into Holland and barret and it's marketed in a big way now.Different bottles for stress, anxiety, sleep etc etc . would it be safe for us heart patients?I suffer severe insomnia so would it help me with sleep and relaxation? And would it interfere with my Meds or cause more problems with my vasospastic Angina/coronary artery spasm.Just wondered if anyone has tried it or have any thoughts on it?

Hi Rob

I have to be careful with certain foods and drinks that can trigger my vasospasms.

My list includes caffeine and artificial sweeteners.

Cocaine is a well known as a cause of vasospasms severe enough to lead to a heart attack. Some of us get accused of taking illegal drugs with this condition.

There maybe chemicals in these untested herbal products that could also cause vasospasms. I would talk to a pharmacist or your GP or Cardiologist about the possible interaction between the CBD oil and your heart medication.

Thanks Milkfairy. I was just about to message you about it actually but you beat me to it😁😂😃But I have just messaged you personally about what I mentioned yesterday. Hopefully you will only chuckle a little bit when you read it😔My daughter has Epilepsy and I know there has been an awful lot on tv about CBD OIL and how it can calm seizures.

I agree with you because today people use hard drugs and suffer from many diseases that are caused by cocaine or an even more serious substance. This is wrong and people have long discovered a tool that is easier and more useful, for example, CBD oils that I like so much. They actually do not cause any damage to the body, which is why they are so actively used in our country ( I am sure that outside of the United States, these oils are also beginning to be popular). I was first told about it by a friend throwing off this link ctfocbdonline.com/. I learned a lot and decided to try it. Now my headaches are gone and I feel much better

I agree which is why I have encouraged people not to use CBD oil or other drugs such as cannabis or cocaine

They are especially harmful for those of us living with coronary vasospastic angina.

The only tablets my GP would recommend for sleep we’re KALMS from Boots. She said she took them sometimes. However this was a few years ago, before my heart attack. Check with pharmacist first.

It's that or self medicating with a nice bottle of red wine?

You are braver than me I just would not fancy the look on my Cardiologist's face if I ended up in A&E .

Here's the latest update on Vasospastic angina by the BHF uploaded on Friday.

Does that mean red wine is ok for us? My reading of the enormous and numerous info leaflets with the meds was that alcohol could make me auto combust (especially nitrates).

An occasional glass of something from north of the border would make life much more pleasant. (My name is Matthew, it’s been five months now since.......)

Hi Matthew

I haven't gone up in flames yet!

All things in moderation as they say though 😉

Cannabis itself can cause tachycardia and reduction in blood pressure. This could potentially prove fatal especially for those on anti-anginals and/or BP medication. It is also more carcinogenic than tobacco. Anybody with a heart condition should have an adult conversation with their GP if they are thinking of using it.

Used in a controlled manner the vascular effects could be beneficial. However, there is doubt that these properties are carried forward in the manufacture of CBD oil.

My conclusion currently is avoid cannabis and its products.

I've been taking Celtic Wind CBD oil for six months while it has helped with my joint pains it has not helped my sleep issues. I have nearly always got off to sleep OK my problem is that around two hours later I suddenly waken for no reason and them have difficulty in sleeping again. It has though made me more relaxed about he situation :-)

I'm not sure about H&B claims for oils targeted for different situations.

Everyone, before they listen to the propergander from the governments and the daily mail, needs to research your Endocannabinoid system. It was discovered in the 1980s.

Nothing in your body that requires alcohol, but a whole system that requires cannabinoids to function.........

MichaelJH profile image
MichaelJHHeart Star in reply to woodlandwonders

Whilst it is a known fact that your body needs cannabinoids to function these are naturally occurring. Research had shown that those contained within THC actually interfer with the natural process.

woodlandwonders profile image
woodlandwonders in reply to MichaelJH

And may I point out that almost all the CBD oil in this country is derived from HEMP which is a completely differant plant to cannibis, only containing trace amounts of THC proven to have no effect on the human body.

Confusion between them suits big business and pharma because hemp coild save our planet but not their pockets.

You can eat it, clothe yourself from it, build your house, make a biodegradable replacemnet for plastic, run your car, it removes heavy metal and other pollutants from contaminated land and a thousand other things. And all this without a drop of pesticide. If you smoke it you get a headache. But of course no one is smoking it so the carcinogenic point is also irrelevant.

Please do not confuse the two

On the point of medicinal CANNIBIS, and this shouldn't be confused with with high THC strains such as Skunk which is the strain used in most negitive tests on cannabis, I have had many 'Adult conversations' (tad patronizing) with all 6 Consultants currently treating me and many GPs. NONE have given a negative response, probably because I'm saving them a fortune by no longer needing the prescriptions for their highly addictive drugs. I also have a friend whos child no longer fits 30x a day and another friend with MS who, for the first time in years can have some kind if life. ALL being used with the full knowledge of their Doctors, who, once they work out how to get their cut of money from it, will no doubt prescribe it themselves.

Although some time before my AVR, I started using CBD oil to help with night cramps and to improve my sleep quality. I have to say after several months of use I found absolutely zero benefit from using the product! There are probably more reliable ways available to help solve your sleep problem. Good luck, there is nothing like a good night’s sleep to set you up for the next day, although a lot of us have to function on much less.

Tried it, took it for just over a fortnight to build up the dose (dose increase over one week, maintained the dose for a week) as advised by someone very knowledgeable and experienced, and found it had some effect on my chronic, intractable pain - which was the primary intention - but wasn’t sufficiently effective to justify the cost. For a decent dose of a reputable, decent product that’s actually going to do something, the cost is prohibitive long term in the absence of proper relief. Even if I’d had an amazing improvement, the cost would still be genuinely prohibitive for me tbh.

I felt relatively chilled generally for the duration, and whilst I know other people might come and shout ‘IMPOSSIBLE’ at me for saying this, my own personal experience of legal CBD oil in the UK - which HAS to contain less than 0.2% THC, the main element that gives you the ‘high’ using cannabis - was a fairly comparable feeling to when I toked on a few spliffs/got passively high once or twice in my late teens: to clarify, I didn’t feel high, but I felt relaxed in the same way I previously had when high. No idea how or why, and I certainly wasn’t expecting anything like it so I would dispute it being a psychosomatic effect, but it was also another reason to discontinue - it was a kind of relaxed that really I disliked when taking cannabis and the primary reason I used it no more than half a dozen times in my youth. I found I tended to drift off more quickly at night but otherwise it didn’t have a noticeable impact on my sleep or quality of said sleep overall, but it didn’t trigger any (additional) palpitations or noticeable tachycardia, or have any other noticeable, detrimental effects on me in light of my various diagnoses. I did, however, have conversations with a number of people before I went ahead and tried it, including my GP, and there are known, documented issues with certain cardiac medications (and a few other meds generally) primarily due to changes in absorption as a result of taking CBD: the herbalist I consulted said exactly the same things on this as the GP did, which was actually really reassuring for me that I’d found someone who knew what they were talking about, but it also demonstrates the need to properly look into it before going ahead if you’re taking medication. Any substance can cause harm under the right circumstances.

In short, whilst it has it’s benefits and I think there’s probably a place for it, I don’t personally think CBD oil is the cure-all that many routinely tout it as. I think people also fail to realise/understand that the prescribed oils that are so life-changing in epileptic conditions etc. contain a lot more of the other psychoactive cannabinoids such as THC than the stuff you can buy online or on the high street, so in some ways it’s not really the same substance. You also need to properly do your research and understand what a therapeutic dose would be for the purposes that you want it for and your size - I definitely wouldn’t just waltz into Boots or Holland and Barrett cold and buy a bottle of the shelf.

I think i took it for 3/4 weeks at least before i noticed the benefit , its effect is cumulative . After 16 months i wouldnt be without it . Its a lifesaver and i'm very grateful that its available . Yes its very expensive and i'm on a low income , but i would sacrifice other things to have it . KT

There is a Facebook group following CBD Oil. I use Simply CBD Liquid Gold and its helped my anxiety and I’ve recently bought their Sunset which is for bedtime. Their advice is leave 4 hours between medication and oil.

Always remember that Holland & Barrett are a commercial food retailer, owned by a Russian billionaire. They are not a pharmacy, and not medical practitioners. Their only real obligation is not to kill you with food poisoning..... and make a profit.

So, so true. I abandoned any truck with homeopathy after a conversation with a biochemist friend who worked for Nelson’s for 3 years. I am disgusted with the way the ‘alternative medicine’ movement has left it so open to the exploitation of desperate people.

I asked my GP about this as I suffer from constant severe nerve pain and really wanted to try it. He said it probably would help the pain BUT not enough is known about the effect on the heart to risk it.

I've been on just oxycodone for 19 years. NOthing else works at all . Gabapentin made me suicidal and amitryptilene made me like a zombie. They have no idea what else to offer. Acupuncture helps for a few days.

Hi have taken cbd oil with no problems apart from not being in the best of moods the day after, it does help me sleep for around 4 hrs but after that I can’t get back to sleep, so not really the help that I was looking for with my insomnia. I have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with an ICD fitted. As everybody has different issues I would be careful using anything that could interfere with your heart/body in general. I would advise to speak to your cardiologist first, rather than taking risks with your health.

I take CBD oil everyday for excessive PVC’s along with ubequinol (a form of CoQ10), turmeric the BELL brand and 3-6-9 blend oil. This combination has done wonders. I take CBD 3 times a day in liquid dropper form from GEMINI.

Good luck to you!

Not sure about Heart, Insomnia etc. There is a Man in my Street who has Leukaemia, and he swears by it. Compared to what he looked like before and what he looks like now is unbelievable! He looks really well. 😊 If it worked for Sciatica, I think I would almost certainly try it......!

I agree with Woodlandwonders. The form of so called Cannabis oil in this country is not what a lot of people think. It's not like the drug or, weed as that's illegal, it is hemp seed oil. I take Cannabis Sativa Oleum capsules otherwise known as Hemp Seed Oil 1000 mg.

I have had a valve and, artery replacement, heart attack and an extended DVT and unfortunately I am also Diabetic and have Osteoarthritis which means I take a lot of prescription meds.

No concrete medical advice on taking the Hemp Oil capsules alongside the other meds as there is not enough research as yet. I decided to take it to see if it helped my joint pain and, help me sleep in the hope I could cut down on some prescription medication.

I am feeling quite well in myself but it's early days yet, time will tell

Dear Rob

i use this and i have a heart condition . Metabolic Syndrome , or Syndrome X . I take monomil , felodipine , atenolol and aspirin .

I believe it helps with sleeping as it helps to relax me . I also have RLS and take tramadol in the afternoon and ropinerole at night for that . Also magnesium and a tablet that converts to serotonin in the body. Mostly the only thing that wakes me in the night is a trip to the loo, but i think there may be a treatment for that.

I hope this may help you . K. T

Hi KTGard

You may find this information from the BHF website about Microvascular angina and vasospastic angina helpful.

Metabolic syndrome is a different condition. Cardiac syndrome X / syndrome X are no longer used by specialists and researchers investigating this type of angina.

bhf.org.uk/informationsuppo...

CBT oil or Cannabis has the potential to make vasospasms worse. A severe vasospasm can cause a heart attack or heart rhythm problems.

There is also an issue that the CBT oil could interact with the heart drugs being taken.

For this reason CBT oil should not be used without a prior discussion and approval of your GP or Cardiologist.

Hi Rob, Yeah you can try but it depends on your organism, in general CBD products are very good and you can use them any time. In past I had problems with sleeping and I was very stressed because of work. My friends told me about CBD products and the effect was nice, I started to sleep faster and I started to be more calm. I tried CBD tea and honey also and I am using them till now. There are so many CBD products on the market and you can mix them without problems. Also as I know that there isn't a clear method and dosage that will work for everyone, you need to find your personal way. You can read here more info about CBD products: theodysseyonline.com/how-to...

very useful information. Take care and good luck !

Hi LucaRosso

Is this your personal opinion or have you got some evidence based research to support the use of CBD oil for in particular Microvascular angina a condition that the orginal poster has been diagnosed with?

Sure it's gonna help you, because i had same problem because i had same thing around 5 years. Later one my doctor prescribed me to use CBD because it's really helping to reduce insomnia and to feel better. The main problem is to find really good Hemp vendors, since not all of them have qualitative products and as well pretty good prices. I was able to find one and it's really good. After I started to use, I felt the difference between before using CBD and after. If you have any questions i can you help you with a good shop, which i am using as well. Here is the link : arkinstitute.com/hemp-vendors/

Hi, I'm not sure if you can. But I think you could consult a doctor or at least a pharmacist. CBD products helped me once, I once struggled with stress and insomnia. But I'm not sure about you because everyone's body is different. I know this from my experience. Once I couldn't wait and felt tired and depressed and went to the doctor with my problems. The doctor advised me to try CBD products and told me to try it only once and it helped me, after that he gave me a reliable store weedsmart.net/product-categ... . He is a good doctor and he said that there are cases when CBD products or just marijuana do not help. I'm lucky, and I hope you are too. Good luck:)
