In my position of waiting for a bypass due to a blockage plus other restrictions I’m wondering why I haven’t been prescribed statins?

No idea as they seem fairly standard practice if their is raised cholesterol and/or narrowed arteries. My heart dolly mix before bypass was Omeprazole (as other meds caused acidity), Atorvastatin, aspirin, lisinopril and isosorbide mononitrate (anti-anginal). After my bypass the nitrate was removed, the Atorvastatin quadrupled and Bisoprolol added. However, individuals vary so many will have variations on this theme.

I would ring your GP in the morning to double-check just in case it had been overlooked.

I recently saw doctor and he wanted me to consider getting on a statin because C-reactive protein came in marginally elevated at 3.8 mg/L. Although this does indicate I have some inflammation, I'm reluctant to take the statin. The day prior to blood test I worked out vigorously and think that may be the reason for elevated inflammation marker in blood work. My lipid profile came back with great numbers, HDL 81 LDL 51 VLDL 12, hence my reluctance to take a statin. I'm going to get tested again next week, and if CRP is not markedly reduced I won't hesitate one bit to start taking a statin as they can significantly reduce inflammation. If I'm in your shoes with the elevated risk factors you face with your circumstances I would want to take a statin or at least have an explanation from my doctor with sound reasoning for why he has not prescribed one.

I'm glad I read your post Willsie, it really got me to thinking about statins and I think I'm going to heed my doctor's suggestion and start taking one because at the end of the day, in spite of very good lipid numbers, I believe the statin will reduce my risk factors. Sometimes I am stubborn to a fault, and in hindsight I probably should have been taking a statin. Over the years I have kind of put my health in my own hands because I have not followed up with a cardiologist on regular basis. When you feel great and feel like you're doing everything right that's easy to do because I've felt like I was in control, but in hindsight very foolish on my part. I suppose going to a cardiologist really puts me in touch with my mortality and that messes with my head. I'm having a couple of tests done, an Echo and a 24 hour holter monitor (I had normal ECG but have had benign palpitations for decades) and even though I don't anticipahte bad results it puts my anxiety through the roof. But I will proceed with the tests, it's time for me to stop being such an idiot.

My GP said no rush as the benefits aren’t instant anyway. Builds up over a period.
