On the way back but winning

March 22 and it was 36 degrees Celsius here in Australia while my partner and I were moving house finally something had to give. Due to a life of poor lifestyle choices bad diet and a thirst for beer and coke rather than water. Zero exercise and suffering hypertension and extremely high blood pressure and on sporadically taking my meds something had to give then I was moving a box and my heart stopped and fell face first onto our tile floor knocking out my front teeth and died for for nine minutes while my partner crying continued to to perform cpr while waiting for the ambulance/ paramedics to arrive who somehow revived me .

After arriving to our towns small hospital I was flown by helicopter to our nearest major city (Brisbane).

In the intensive care unit I had amnesia and lost ten days of memory and twice left hospital against all advice.

Hearing conversations of defibs and stents I was scared and depression kicked in ,my license was suspended and was banned from operating heavy machinery which is my job in earthmoving.

I cried so hard like my life would change forever.

Despite all this I had no idea how serious my situation had been until I by chance met the paramedics who save my life and they couldn’t believe I survived.

Then boom it dawned on me I could have been gone forever had it not been for my beautiful strong partner and two very well trained paramedics that were really on their game.

It’s been eight weeks now since my cardiac arrest . with so many changes so quickly it’s been a real culture shock of lifestyle, diet and fitness.

My brain is functioning back to normal and look forward to returning to work in 3 months.

I just want to say is stay positive despite the road being slow sometimes everyday is progress.

Thanks for reading.

G'day and welcome to the forum! I love Australia and have relatives in Adelaide and friends in Brisbane. 35C is just warming up - when I had a stroll in Kings Canyon it was 45C! Roo meat is far cheaper for you than the UK and only 2% fat. Allegedly it also reduces atherosclerosis.

Being more serious I am glad to hear you are making a good recovery - just remember keep up the lifestyle changes. Any questions feel free to post. Good luck!

Thanks Michael I am actually in Kingaroy more of a dryer heat than most coastal parts of Qld .

I find 32 and 80 percent humidity much more in uncomfortable than 35 and dry.

I usually fly to work and particularly remember working in Weipa where it was 38 with 90 percent humidity.

Where all you do is sweat😀

Because we use email so much I could not think of the area of Brisbane where my friend lives but it had come back to me. It is the suburb of Durack. Humidity makes a massive difference. When I was walking in 45C heat it was hot but not uncomfortable as the humidity was barely above zero but in the evenings the temperature dropped to the teens. When I then went on to Cairns it was 35C and 100% humidity - totally draining and it only dropped a few degrees overnight. Love to go back sometime but cost and insurance could be an issue. Keep well hydrated as if you are in typical heart medication dehydration can cause a serious drop in BP.

I grew up on the Southside of Brisbane in Acacia ridge. One suburb from Durack
