Good and Bad

I have had a STEMI to OM and require additional stent for RCA, hopefully thats all. Like most I changed my ways, eating and exercise.

I read stories on here about, people who have had multiple heart attacks, stents and bypass. Even when they change their life around, things go pear shaped. Sorry for you to have to go thru this and hope things get better.

What I wanted to know, if there is any information, statistics as to heart attacks, stents and reoccurrence of heart attacks. Know there is a lot of variables. Just wanted to know the norm.

Thanks for any info.

Hello and welcome to the forum! There is a lot of flawed research out there often skewed for some hidden agenda. I know two people doing well in their nineties who forty years ago had a heart attack and bypass respectively. They both follow the advice given, keep active and take their medication. On the other hand I know someone who went back for further stents twice as the messages of don't smoke and don't eat cooked breakfasts regularly have not sunk in. I also known if two people who didn't make a year post bypass; one resumed heavy smoking within weeks and the other resumed heavy drinking!

So the message is clear; make the lifestyle changes, exercise, take your medication, and neither smoke nor drink heavily!

The American Heart Association is a similar organisation to the British Heart Foundation, they say 20% of patients aged 45 or older will have a second heart attack within five years of their first.

That's an alarming statistic, but the better way of using that information is to resolve to be one of those who don't have a second heart attack. The American Heart Association, the NHS, and the BHF are all pretty clear on what that means,

-don't smoke and drink only in strict moderation

-don't be obese or overweight

-eat healthily

-take your medication

-150 minutes of aerobic exercise per week

-identify and manage key risk factors such as stress

Thanks guys. 20/80.

Google is great, but so much info.

Inferior stemi this and that. Death and heart disease, heart damage...

Most of the reading, makes you want to close your eyes and just scream #%^*!.

Information overload, stress levels go through the roof.

Suppose cant predict the future, but can stack it in your favor and just roll the dice.

Well, I have changed my lifestyle.

No more junk food, drink only couple beers/red wine weekly. Not smoked for 25years. Walk 3km daily. Will restart jogging aerobics after next stent and I am taking my meds. Its only three weeks, but its a start.

Except have to manage stress. Google...
