DCM & DRUGS

Respected dear colleagues,

Diagnosed with DCM during May 2018 & at that time was having severe gastritis leading to unbearable abdominal cramps. Prescribed with carvedilol, spironolactone plus toresemide, atorovastatin, clopidegril, losartan with potassium, metformin and pantarazole with domperidone.

My symptoms are greatly reduced and no gastritis or abdominal cramps for more than 8 months. But still continuing with domperidone 30 mg and pantarazole 40 mg. My GP says today quit domperidone since it should not be used for heart failure patients in a prolonged manner. He has advised to limit with either pantarazole or omperazole 40 mg.

I couldn't discuss this issue with my cardiologist as he doesn't like such discussions about administering drugs. Even internet literature proscribes usage of domperidone for heart failure patients.

Please guide me as to whether quit domperidone & continue with pantarazole only.

Praying excuse for disturbing you.

With warm regards,

M. Vivekanandan

Hello and welcome to the forum! The NICE guidelines suggest contra-indications for long term use with some cardiac issues. If I were you I would follow your GP's advice and stop the domperidone 30 mg. Nothing suggests any need for a phased withdrawal.
