Sinus Bradycardia

Hi, I’m new here. I have been suffering with sinus bradycardia for at least the last 13 years after diagnosis. Some days my heartbeat gets as low at the high thirties, although it averages about 42-44 bpm. Most nights I have trouble sleeping although as I’m almost 70 it might be my age. My doctor has said they can’t do anything until I get dizzy spells, which I don’t as yet. Does anyone know if this is right?

My question exactly. My mom is 80+ and suffering the same condition. Her day time heart rate can go into the 30s. The EP says no pacemaker till she faints. The damn condition is wearing her down. And us too

I’ve also been told that by my GP, I agree it does wear you down as I’m so often tired. It’s not fair on my husband as so often we make plans to go out but unfortunately a lot of days I just don’t have the energy or even the inclination some days. Luckily enough for me he is very understanding about my condition but it’s no fun!! Thank you so much for replying as now I know there is someone out there with the same problem as me. A hug to you and your Mum xx

God bless you CraftyScrapper : )

So true! We no longer are able to make plans. We have to take things day to day. And when she does go out, she'll mostly be knocked out on the couch after she's back. Looks wise, she has aged overnight. It's disturbing. Just 6 months ago, she was still doing one hour walks?! I find it hard to believe this is the way to deal with this?! And I really cannot understand why she can't be fitted with a pacemaker sooner??

Wishing u well : )

Bless you both too Ling. I also find after we have a few hours out I too can feel really whacked and even the next day. I do have a wheelchair which I feels helps somewhat as it enables us to stay out a bit longer. But saying that I still feel totally drained afterwards. I noticed you say your Mum is in her 80’s. Can I ask how long ago it was diagnosed. I’m 70 next month and I was diagnosed back in 2006, so I’ve had to put up with this condition for at least 15 years+.

I wish your Mum well and hopefully not have to wait too long for her pacemaker. Xx

Wow 2006! My mother appears to have sick sinus syndrome. Is that the same as sinus bradycardia?

My mom's condition was diagnosed around 2015. Progression has quickened significantly in the last few months.

Does your heart rate or BP go lower the next day after u've been out?

Hi Ling, no it would seem that they are not quite the same although symptoms are very similar. My BP stays normal but my heart beat is very slow but with a regular beat. The lowest I know it became was back in 2006 when I had a 24 hour heart monitor test done and the specialist told me that at 1am during that 24 hour period my heart beat got down to 17 bpm. I haven’t had a test done since so no idea what it is while I’m asleep. These days during waking hours I average anywhere between 36-44 bpm.

What was your waking hours heart rate like before?

Do u know the cause of your slow heart rate?

Yes my mother had the overnight holter done as well in 2015. Her heart stopped beating very briefly 2+ seconds before the "back up" pacemaker kicked in. The doc said no definitive treatment would be done unless the pause was 3 seconds or more.

And when we asked, she said no one dies from this condition as in our secondary natural pacemakers will kick start the heart beating again. When I see my mother knocking out in that awful stillness which is nothing like sleep, and then waking just as suddenly, picking up from before she knocked out, it all just smacks of UNNATURAL, ABNORMAL : (

When they fitted my first pacemaker, my heart rate was getting down to 30ish at night, and I sometimes woke up paralysed from the neck down, and my SPO2 was getting down to 75.

I had permanent Atrial Fibrillation a the time... when I was fit a pulse rate of 30 was OK.

I did tend to collapse in a heap due to postural hypotension, and feel faint e.g. walking up stairs.

How are you doing now?

What was the reason your first pacemaker was fitted?

Thank you
