Golf - 5 weeks after stent

Trying to leave a positive trail of stuff. Something I would have liked to read when I was struggling not that long ago. Against my better judgement I accepted a late invitation to play golf yesterday. Had a couple of twitchy moments on the driving range - a touch tender still around the stent. I’d already asked the consultant if I could do any physical damage (I’d visualised the stent damaging my artery somehow) - but he said no problem.

I made my apologies to my playing partners (including 2 professionals) on the 1st tee and proceeded to swing very cautiously. Much to my surprise, played without much discomfort and as well as I ever did - if not a little better. Knocked my drive past all of them down the 18th and walked in feeling fantastic.

There’s a life lesson (and a golf lesson) in there somewhere. If there’s a version of me out there about to have a stent - you might find that interesting. Everyone else, move on. Nothing to see here.

Well done it great to hear your story. 🏌️‍♂️ fantastic exercise as well . It does give me a boost to hear life can return to normal quite quickly. Thank you for sharing. Happy golfing 😁🏌️‍♂️🏌️‍♂️

Just a thought 🤔 how about arranging a charity golf day or round and raise money for the BHF. That will encourage you to keep up the golfing 👍😄. You could contact your local fundraising group and they will be very happy to help you run one. See the BHF site for details.

Have fun and take care

That’s a very good idea. Got to use all this for something useful. So far I’ve paid my own way (blown my savings) and I’m a shade bitter about that. But would be very selfish not to do something to help others in the same boat. I’m just not done being selfish yet.

Hi David, I have had two lots of stents, first 1 stent then 5 years later 2 stents, that was 6 years ago. All fixed! I was playing 18 holes six weeks after both lots of stents and never felt any ill effects. Incidentally, my first heart attack was when playing in a Hospital Charity match. In the four ball behind us was a Cardiologist! Enjoy your golf, your stents will be fine.

Hello, I am thinking of starting to play Golf as soon as I complete my Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme after having stent at Glenfield Hospital. I think there will not be any problem with stent in the artery if I go to the gym, play golf and also go for swimming after about 3 months of stent experience. I like Golf as it involves walking long distance while being active and consciously aware in mind. I will be reading Golf books and watch the game on the internet while I am recovering under Rehabilitation programme. I have taken interest in the game since about 1990s and visited many golf courses in Leicestershire and Ireland

Good news - I’m able to play now without any worries. Walking / carrying my bag like before. Bad news - I’m just as bad as I used to be.

I had a ‘blip’ when I thought the Angina came back on a cold Saturday morning, but now decided to stay open minded on what that might have been. I’ve exercised hard since and not had it again. The rehab team think it was my mind playing tricks .... which maybe it was.

Just stents - I dodged a HA. Was 95% blocked in my LAD.
