Issues with Furosemide.

Hi just an update from an earlier post. I thought I was having side effects a couple of weeks ago. I continued to have them an then began to get very dehydrated and began to get more palpitations than usual. It was as someone on here suspected my potassium levels were low. Taken off the water pills to see what happens. At the moment no water retention and with the help of a few bananas a day I feel much better. I have a mild leaking aortic valve so may need to go back on them in future but apparently there are potassium saving ones which will stop this. I have been advised to keep moving so I am doing my 10000 steps and continue to loose weight so there is a good chance I won't need them. Just need to sort out the tendonitis in my shoulder from seven weeks in hospital now.😡. I am anxious about having had Endocarditis and the thought of having a valve replacement one day but I am just trying to enjoy things as much as possible with the exception of the phased return to work! Just wish the travel insurance wasn't so expensive. Feeling reasonably positive😃

Hi Hedgehoglady,

Sounds like you are doing well and getting back to health. Well done doing your 10,000 steps.

Are still finding you get tired. It is the thing I have struggled with the most. I hope that you get lots of support on your turn. Take things easy and pace yourselves.

It's difficult not to worry about recurrent endocarditis as well as taking all the sensible precautions we just have to be positive and try and keep as healthy as possible but it's tough.

We went France this year and I got insurance through a company discussed on here whose name I forget but it began with S. The quote was not as bad as I feared.

Keep well and pace yourself.

Hi, sorry for not replying sooner. I am still having various issues with the medication. Furosemide now off the menu but I really have to keep an eye on my weight and ankles so far so good. My cardiologist is keen to get me off the water pills too. The Statins have given me joint issues so have been changed and I am on the lowest level possible. I never had a problem with colestrol but it's a precaution as the infection gave me a very minor stroke. The return to work has been up and down. I get tired quickly and I find it impossible to cope with any pressure. It's a gradual process I guess but hopefully back to full time in February. If not I will go part time permanently. On the upside I had an dreadful cold and nothing awful happened. I passed my wildlife rehab course so I am a registered carer with the British Hedgehog Protection Society. I have been hand rearing Hoglets with heavy gloves on! I went to Edinburgh and had a wonderful time. I am having a wildlife experience at the Zoo this weekend as a thank you for picking up some hedgehogs who got in there and will feed the penguins😃. Not exactly restful but fun and good for the soul. Don't worry I am being very careful about infection. I am feeling increasingly confident about life. However, I am making sure that I am in the best place possible if I need the valve replacement. Hope all is well with you, do have a Merry Christmas.
