Anything without juice, like advocados and bananas, should be blended. Beware of massive fruit sugar and calorie hits! You can hit 300+ calories in one juicing session!

Hi Asker

One thing to consider is that juicing will reduce the effectiveness of the fibre in the vegs you choose, and it's the fibre that gives you the feeling of "full". It might mean that you eat more and start to put on weight - especially with the extra sugar you'll be getting from juiced fruit. You might remember that diet plans often warn you that too much fruit juice won't help you lose weight.

Otherwise - Good Luck!

Are you juicing or blending? I think juicing will reduce the impact of the 5-7 a day as you lose all or most of the dietary fibre which is one of the reasons why the recommendation for fruit and veg is made - it’s not just about vitamins and minerals. If you are making smoothies you can use more or less anything but be aware of your sugar intake, it can get surprisingly high very quickly.

Hi Asker the only things I can think of is Grapefruit and potentially problems with statins and calcium channel blockers. Also being careful with too much potassium filled fruit and veg. It can be a struggle getting 5-10 veg in a day even though I follow a strict vegan diet I sometimes default to my raw oats and soy yogurt! What about homemade soups rather than juicing. That also ensures you get your fibre mentioned by BJH. I make them all the time and blend them so get all the nutrients and more than 5 per day. Anyway enjoy. Best wishes. Zena

During my recovery I have added soya protein to my breakfast fruit smoothies to support the healing process plus Inulin which is a dietary fibre which may also contribute to the reduction of visceral fat. Could be wasting my money but my recovery has been good and I'm feeling well.

No, heart meds don’t stop us drinking fruit and veg juice. I’ve juiced grapes before but it takes a lot, we onli did it to see if we could, it was my friend’s idea who hates anything healthy but it made it fun for her.

Actually, if you are taking statins, you might want to check whether or not you should avoid grapefruit.

I was doing some reading today on an NHS website, to see what a portion is. It states that fruit juice can over ever be one portion irrespective of how much you have. So juicing is not the answer, you need the whole fruit and/or veg.

But if it’s easier to drink then do it, I believe portions are onli to either make sure u get enough or for weight loss so unless u are trying to lose weight don’t worry.

Actually, no. Its not just vitamins and minerals and liquid (mostly water) its also about the fibre and you don't get that in the juice - hence fruit juice is only ever one portion - you miss the other 4 portions of your 5 a day irrespective of how much fruit juice you drink. If you pulp the fruit and veg and therefore eat all of the fruit/veg then yes, you can get your 5 a day this way. But juicing is not the answer.

Why don't you just eat the food and don't bother to juice it or what ever? You are equipped with a set of insides that are really good at juicing and blending. I don't understand why any food needs liquidising. Apart from bread sauce
