Lack of appetite after heart attack

I'm not sure if its the shock or the tablets but just feeling so sick and off my food since my heart attack a week ago. Did anyone else experience eating problems or similar and did they pass. Thanks

I has similar issues post triple CABG. I put it down to shock and awful hospital food. There have been a number of posts from people with similar issues and I don't know that anyone has really got to the bottom of it as far as determining the cause. The good news is that it does pass. I found that having something with a very strong flavour (and something I really hankered after) kick started my appetite when I got back home

Yes a combanation of shock and the meds.

Remember, your body and mind have gone through quite a trauma.

I think it's a bit like PTS disorder.

Your grieving for the old you, while trying to get to know the new you.

Unfortunately the lack if apitight doesn't last, lol!

And believe it or not, you do get used to having a cardiac issue. To tge point where you rule it, it doesn't rule or control you.

Apart from taking my meds twice a day, getting a bit breathlessness and tired often and easily. I pretty much live my life as I did before my heart attack and bypass.

Life is for living, it does get easier. It just take patients and time.

Try not to walk before you crawl.

I have a suspicion that it is due to an electrolyte imbalance following major trauma such as heart attack or bypass surgery. During that time considerable amounts of intravenous fluids (I also needed a transfusion). I had daily potassium and magnesium supplements for a number of days after coming out of the HDU.

It is such a shock, as others have said, you must give yourself time to get used to the new ‘you’. But there is a good life still to be had. For me, not the same one, but a very different and fascinating one!

But do check your meds, some irritate your stomach. I found esomeprazole, given after HA to protect my stomach from the new handful of pills, including high dose asprin, was the only ‘prazole’ that didn’t also irritate it.

I also had an electrolyte imbalance post triple CABG. I couldn’t eat after I was discharged & eventually collapsed at home. Apparently my potassium level was critical when I was admitted to HDU at my local hospital. I was very poorly for a few days but was eventually discharged with potassium supplements, magnesium powders, sodium bicarbonate capsules & other supplements. That was 2 weeks ago I now seemed to have turned a corner, my appetite is back & I am now trying to get my mobility back, I also start cardiac rehab next week.

I lost apetite completely after heartattackIam 10 days after. Not feeling sick but not eating much. I think its pills.
