I was rushed into hospital in 2017 after having gastroenteritis like symptoms upon arrival i went in to cardiac arrest after the A&E consultant and the nusing team worked on me to i was induced into a coma and transfered to another hospital where i was kept in the coma for a few days until there was a slot at another hospital for the surgery. after being transfered the CT scans reveled a massive infection in my aorta and the other valves in my heart so i had the surgery which lasted 12 hrs after that surgery there was a bleed around my heart so i had more sugery 10 hrs this time at the end of that surgery they coudn't find where the bleed was coming from so on to the 3rd surgery where it was decided to redo all the work in the previous surgerys which lasted 14 hrs i spent 3 months in hospital numerous stays in intensive care and a very long course of very strong antibiotics to fight of the infection and sepsis i am currrently on the mend and attending a cardiac rehab programme and i was fitted with an ICD implant because of complete heart block due to the surgerys and the infection my sinus node was damaged

Hi, so sorry to hear what you have been through, my story is exactly the same as yours every word l can mirror except for the 3rd redo. l now am on lifelong warfarin have a AVR, other valves repaired and have an abdominal pacemaker because of total heart block one side. l was infected after severe sepsis, septic shock and endocarditis and they had to drain all these infections from my body. l had a 6 hour repair, valves etc, then 11 hour redo op 5 weeks later to fit my mechanical aortic valve. My hero consultant surgeon said l was "at the pearly gates twice but he dragged me back" l spent 92 days in hospital which as you know is an eternity. At one point l had so many antibiotics l looked like an octopus with all the drains. So well done you for fighting so hard like l did, we are still alive. 44,000 people a year who had sepsis are not. Please read my other posts, hopefully they will help your journey, l am now 15 months on since the last redo op. Watch out for the depression! you sound positive so lm sure you will mend soon. lf you want to ask me questions or just chat feel free to message me. Take care, Sue.
